Anyone used this? Selling a car for an elderly relative. It's 10 years old but good condition. Do they drop much from the quote?TIA

In our experience, when we got there they started knocking money off here and there.

We walked away and sold on Motorway

StormsAreNeverNamedAfterMe · 22/04/2024 16:11

They drop on the day for every mark.
But you do get the money quickly.

Try, you can always walk away if they drop it too far.

oOiluvfriendsOo · 22/04/2024 16:14

We used motorway and it was the same......went to auctiin apparently sold for x amount then when they came to see the car that price halved.

I got a better price and no messing from a more local company. In our case South East Car Buyers have brought two cars from my dad. The first one they bloke increased the payment by £100 when he saw the condition of the car, the second paid exactly what they'd said they would with no quibbling. Their quotes were reasonable compared to what we might have got selling privately, a reasonable bit under the highest price we could have hoped for.

Almostwelsh · 22/04/2024 16:20

They are dreadful. Routinely offer half what the car is worth and charge fees as well.

They auction the cars. For an easy sell, either offer the car to a local dealer or put it through the auction yourself. You won't get top price, but it's likely to be better than we buy any car.

caringcarer · 22/04/2024 16:33

You'd be better to advertise it on Auto trader.

Notsonifty50 · 22/04/2024 16:41

We've just used Motorway to sell our car and it went very smoothly. They paid us the price we'd agreed with no quibbling and it was a price we were happy with. However the dealer that bought it has listed it on eBay for nearly £3000 more than we sold it for. It seems to be a very unrealistic price (not in line with any guide prices) and hasn't sold over two months later.

Axx · 22/04/2024 17:03

Excellent around here. Got exactly what they quoted on their website and paid the same day.

RoseBucket · 22/04/2024 17:04

I’ve sold two cars with them and they paid exactly what was quoted.

Octavia64 · 22/04/2024 17:05

I used them.

They knocked about 300 quid off a 7000 quid valuation for a few marks.

I just wanted the damn thing sold - was moving house and selling a lot of stuff - and had checked their valuation elsewhere,

I could have got more if I'd sold it myself but was moving house etc.

Bunnyhopskip · 22/04/2024 17:07

They tried to knock £2k of our the already pretty low quote they'd given us. We took it to cazoo in the end who offered a much better initial quote and stuck completely to the agreed price, money in the bank within a minute of us agreeing the sale. They were fab.

SunAndAColdBracingWind · 22/04/2024 17:09

Where are you based? I would look for local garages that buy. We did this and got what I thought was a fair price with no messing around.

Reallyitsonlyme · 22/04/2024 17:11

DS got an online quote of £1,200 (fairly described etc) so took the car down. His car was ten years old but in good condition and he had told them about the one small dent it had, all paintwork fine etc. But when he got there they decided they would only offer £450 and that was after a haggle. He turned around and drove home. Then advertised it on auto trader for £1,500, within an hour a dealer phoned and offered to come and collect it that day for £1,200. So that's what he did.

Just be wary.

Anjo2011 · 22/04/2024 17:12

Got an online quote for my dads car when he decided he wasn’t go to carry on driving. They offered less than 50% of the online quote. We sold it locally to a garage, they collected it and transferred the money whilst they were there so we could check the account to see funds received.

thesugarbumfairy · 22/04/2024 17:13

i used bestcarbuyer and it was a brilliant easy process. Webuyanycar offered more than a grand less.

Geebray · 22/04/2024 17:13

We sold via WbAC. No problems. Nothing knocked off the price, in fact it kept going up as the season changed. Immediate money, no hassle. Would do again.

ETA We were selling a four by four, and as autumn came the valuation went up.

Sprogonthetyne · 22/04/2024 17:15

I found them OK. Didn't knock that much off on the day, but we were pretty meticulous about putting every mark into the calculator before we went.

RampantIvy · 22/04/2024 17:19

I was advised by a local car dealer that I would get more for my car using We Buy And Car than if I had put it in as part exchange. I made an enquiry with We Buy any Car in January, then thought no more about it. They then kept emailing me with higher and higher offers until we decided that they might not go any higher, so I then sold it at the end of March. They only dropped the offer by £200 and were very quick and efficient. I found the whole process quick and easy.

I also got my insurance and road tax back within a week.

I would use them again, and my advice would be to sit on it for a while and wait for higher offers.

nowtygaffer · 22/04/2024 17:26

I used them a couple of years ago. They were really good. I ended up getting more than they'd initially quoted me. It was a very quick and easy process.

RampantIvy · 22/04/2024 17:36

Yes, I ended up getting £300 more than the initital quote.

Dearg · 22/04/2024 17:44

We did this with an elderly relatives elderly car. DH put all the marks on the app, got a decent quote and that’s what they paid on the day.

Get quotes from a few places if you can - local dealer, any other agencies and understand the value before going to them.

ClonedSquare · 22/04/2024 18:37

We used Motorway and were happy with them. It was a few grand under what they initially quoted but the initial quote was surprisingly high in the first place.
