Wwyd about job?

So started a job 3 months ago, department change in nhs, I thought it would be my dream job, turns out it’s toxic, manager regularly making fellow staff cry, I have had no support from manager since starting and doesn’t talk to me.

Been offered a new job similar job to my current job. At interview, they seemed like they actually cared about staff etc, small firm, lots of career development and pay increases on qualification.

It’s not nhs, it does mean doing 5 rather than 4 days a week, (I do have family to cover childcare on the 5th day)

I have been in two jobs in the last year and both been toxic, so nervous to move.

Wwyd?

Hae you met any members of the team you'd be joining rather than just the manager? Do you know anyone who already works there, anyone who's a friend of a friend you could ask about working there?

something6 · 21/04/2024 10:57

No I don't know anyone who works there, though a friend used to work in that industry and told me to go for a small firm rather than a firm that has loads of practices.

I would stay with an NHS job if I could, but I am very risk averse and like the job security and pension scheme. I fully understand why you want to move from your current job - but could you bear to stay in it while you look for another one? Or would it be possible for you to go on the bank while you look?

In my experience, it usually gets round if a department has a high turnover of staff and senior managers tend to know why. Hopefully your short stay in your current department won't count against you.

So new job is dental nursing so kinda linked to nhs but it's in a practice.

I do understand that moving away from nhs means less pension security.

However it means more career development and less night/ weekend shifts but I'm still unsure what way to go.

I would not stay just for pension - independent sector has pension plans too ( yes I know how they compare to public sector). I can't comment on small vs big employers, but it sounds like you've done yiur research. Can you ask the new job if you can chat with a current employee (one workplace offeted it for me) / do you know anyone working there?

Go for it. Horrible work environments are soul destroying.

Go for the new job before this one kills your mental health
