To cut or not?

I had a baby well over a year ago, i did put on weight but not a significant amount, I cannot get my rings off! Im hoping to loose more weight but im scared my fingers have changed from the pregnancy. They are stuck, they can move around but I cannot get them off. Should I just leave them and keep trying to lose weight or get them cut and resized before they are properly stuck? Ive moved the diamond around so I wont get recognised

I couldn't bear that so would get them cut.

Solgrass · 20/04/2024 20:13

Cut!

Your skin under the ring looks inflamed and cracked and you could get a skin infection.

Lesina · 20/04/2024 20:15

That looks so painful. Cut them.

I'm surprised your finger hasn't fallen off! Sorry but yes, cut them off immediately.

Cut!

dreamfield · 20/04/2024 20:17

Your poor finger. Just get them cut off.

Taylordreams · 20/04/2024 20:30

Thanks for the responses, it isnt painful at all but ive noticed the dry skin underneath recently. Any idea of costs to get them cut and then resized? I feel even if I lost weight my fingers/knuckles have changed since having a baby

Definitely cut OP, it needs to come off. Speak to a jeweller, they will be able to advise on repairs if possible. If they are the ones who will be carrying out repairs or resizing they tend not to charge for removal.

merryandbrightdelight · 20/04/2024 20:38

I tried everything with mine when they became very swollen with eczema, thread didn't work, but window cleaner did! Spray it on and around your rings and wiggle them off one at a time, worked a treat! Then I took them to the jewellers to get made bigger

merryandbrightdelight · 20/04/2024 20:39

FWIW when mine were off I took them to H Samuel and got them sent off to be cleaned and made 2 sizes bigger, think I paid £180

Ill try anything! How much did it cost to resize

I took my rings off in pregnancy and was never able to get them back on properly even though I didn't put on much weight and lost it all within a year.

I genuinely think my fingers have changed and no amount of weightloss will help!

@Taylordreams Totally!! I can accept the reasons why the shape of my pelvis/hips may have changed but I do not understand for the life of me why my fingers have changed!

Did you end up getting them resized?

OP posts:
mynameiscalypso · 20/04/2024 20:46

No, I just don't wear them. I turned 40 last year and got an eternity ring as a replacement. We've never been that fussed about rings as a couple though so I appreciate that might not work for everyone.

Damnyourheadshoulderskneesandtoes · 20/04/2024 20:55

Have you tried putting your hand in ice water for a few minutes before trying to remove them?

Yes, I feel ive tried everything, i used the floss method but freaked out as my finger became purple!! Im worried about the upcoming summer months

Don't leave it until it's too late. I know someone who ended up having to have them removed in A&E (who I'm sure have much better things to do with their time). They had great difficulty, and it was excruciatingly painful despite them using a pretty strong anaesthetic. I can still hear their screams. They also ended up spending a couple of days as an inpatient with an infected finger.

Damnyourheadshoulderskneesandtoes · 20/04/2024 21:34

@Taylordreams yeah just get them cut then. I think they have to cut them to resize them anyway.

kaben · 20/04/2024 21:38

cut for sure

In pregnancy our ovaries and placenta produce a hormone called relaxin. It does what is says on the box: relaxes ligaments, muscles, joints, allowing for the expansion that comes with the baby, giving birth etc. So, that’s why we go a shoe size bigger and the rest of the circus that comes with pregnancy and birth. And not a lot counteracts relaxin, once it’s baggy, it kinda stays like that for a while forever. And then you get to your 50s or earlier if you’re lucky and you have horrendous bunions, where your first metatarsal has enough and wants to get out.

OP, do you have any friends that are nurses? Do you still see the midwife? They know an elastic trick, you could ask them to help, see below

My feet got bigger after ankles swelled and I've never gone back to being a size 5 foot. None of my shoes fitted and I had to give them all to my sister including my best boots.

Motherofpearlxoxo · 20/04/2024 22:26

I’d eliminate all salt for a week and then try to get off again. they may come off then!

AmyandPhilipfan · 20/04/2024 22:29

Mine won't come off either. To be honest I'm not too worried. As a child I remember my mum couldn't remove her ring for quite a few years so as long as my ring finger stays a normal colour I'm not too bothered.
