Depends on what you like! And your budget.
If I could spend £20 on a bottle this evening it would be a lightly oaked South African Chenin Blanc. You’d get really ripe, tropical fruit, lees, vanilla, creaminess.
Or a bright, floral Riesling. I love Riesling, and there’s a huuuuuge range of price available.
In general, if you want something fruity and more fresh/acidic go for north or cool - New Zealand, England, Loire, Northern Rhine etc.
Full-bodied and tropical, look for warmer countries - SA, Mediterranean, inexpensive California etc., Australia.
There’s a nice Californian wine called Bread and Butter if you like lots of oak and cream.
White Bordeaux is a nice middle ground, and inexpensive.
But mostly, the days of an actively nice wine for under a tenner are gone. Once you hit £15 you’re into the sort of territory that £10 got you 7 or 8 years ago. I think a lot of us have stuck to our old budgets, and the supermarkets have bought cheaper and cheaper wine to meet that demand so we’re getting worse and worse wi e for our money, when £15 will do you really well.
