Would you pay more money in a hotel for a higher floor?

Going on holiday on Monday.
We are going to Tenerife.
Emailed hotel asking for a higher floor and they emailed back saying yes no problem but it's an extra 25 euros a day for a higher floor.
The rooms are the same ,you're clearly paying for a better view.
So it's 175 euro for a higher room
Or would you just take the chance and hope you get a higher room anyway without paying for it?

I’ve paid extra for a room with a better view, so yes. I think it’s worth it. I hate it when you get to your room and find it looks out over the car park, or you’re above the bar and you can hear noisy people and music through the floor.

Offer 50 euros for the week. Very unlikely people are booking now for a holiday on Monday so the room is up for grabs.

What floor level were you originally on? I wouldn't want ground floor and a nice view is preferable obviously. I don't think I'd be bothered to pay that much extra though. Why do you want a higher floor?

I always buy the most basic room in a nice hotel. How long do you spend looking out the window? I'm there to sleep only and would rather save the money for a meal upgrade which I would get more enjoyment from.

if it's noisy then ask to move. That's not something you should pay for.

Well this is the thing the higher floor you can see the sea in distance but also roads
The hotel isn't on the sea front
We have been on a lower floor before and could hear them setting up for breakfast which was annoying at times

We always ask for a low floor everytime we go away (my partner sleepwalks so I panic and normally have to barcade the balcony door) plus I have issues with walking so don’t like doing stairs or lifts. we never ever ever ever get one, so the chances are they will put you high up anyway

Wediblino7 · 23/04/2024 12:35

It’s normal isn’t it? When I booked my latest holiday, there was the option of the standard room, a partial sea view room which cost more, and a sea view room which was more expensive again. You could just chance it if you don’t want to pay, if the room you’re allocated is really bad ask to change then. I had a fabulous room overlooking the beach a few years ago on my first holiday abroad with the kids so you never know you might get lucky, enjoy your holiday 😊

WhiteLeopard · 23/04/2024 12:37

I think it's fairly normal to pay more for a sea view room. Up to you whether it's worth it!

BrieAndChilli · 23/04/2024 12:40

i don't like being too high because if there was a fire it is much harder to evacuate you from say the 10th floor than it is from 2nd/3rd

FrangipaniBlue · 23/04/2024 13:46

Higher floors are usually quieter, so yes I would!

purplecorkheart · 23/04/2024 13:52

A lot depends for me. Will the room have a balcony on a sun holiday? If it does or the upper room offers this then yes I would.

Have you taken a look at the reviews of the hotel. What is the story about lifts? I stayed in a hotel that sent me an email offering a higher floor room for an extra charge. However when I looked at the reviews one of the main complaints was the queues for the lifts. The lower floor meant I could use the stairs.

If I am on a city break and am only using the room for sleep then no I wouldn't all else being equal.

Beezknees · 23/04/2024 14:02

No. I don't care where the room is as long as it's clean. I don't go on holiday to sit in the room.

Emmz1510 · 23/04/2024 14:51

The reason you are asking fora higher floor is the reason it costs more! You wouldn’t be asking for no reason. Whether I pay or not depends on the overall holiday cost and what my priorities are. I like a high floor with a nice view from the balcony so yeah I probably would pay

Peonies12 · 23/04/2024 15:03

Floors 3-6 are considered safest (having done training for travel to unsafe locations) - if that's your concern.

Ablar · 24/04/2024 07:33

Wouldn't bother me where my room was. We only use the room to sleep, shower and get ready

FoleyHuck · 24/04/2024 07:36

It's not Sol Arona Tenerife is it? I know they charge more for the highest couple of floors but IIRC those rooms also have a seating area and air-con so it's not just the view.

It's reasonably common for hotels to charge make the higher floors their Superior / Premium rooms and if you've not paid the supplement it's unlikely you'll be allocated one.

ZenNudist · 24/04/2024 07:40

I would pay more for a better view. I would not be happy with car park view. If you view I'd pool view anyway I wouldn't change.

TheThingIsYeah · 24/04/2024 07:48

For every person who would prefer a high floor, there's someone who would prefer a low floor. Evens itself out.

If they are going down the route of charging more for a high floor ask them if they rebate guests back who want one on the ground floor.
