Social anxiety.. high heart rate

Recently bought a Fitbit to up my activity levels.

I’ve always suffered from anxiety and know that it increases your heart rate at times…

basically I went to a relatives funeral today. I felt relatively calm, not panicky but there was quite a few people there I haven’t seen in years and I’m not great in any form of social events but I didn’t feel overly panicky.

anyway, I’ve done home and my Fitbit has recorded I have done nearly 400 minutes of active minutes today when in truth I’ve done barely any ‘exercise’. They just thought I was because of my high heart rate. I briefly looked at it a couple times and in heart rate was 130-140 and not going down. It’s calculated 11,000 steps (about usual for me) and 366 minutes activity!

firstly, is this normal? I didn’t feel like my heart rate was unusually high, secondly is it a health concern to have a high heart rate for so long when not actually exercising?

Resting heart rate is usually about 75-80 which isn’t overly low either!

Please get your blood work checked for thyroid function.
I had a similar issue, and it was hyperthyroidism.

Thank you! Funnily enough I had it checked recently and it came back okay - which surprised me as I have symptoms and thyroid issues run in my family!

I assume you were standing up and moving around a lot at the funeral/ wake ?
That will raise your hr a fair bit.

FitBits and similar devices can be VERY unreliable in recording heart rate. if it is not tight on your wrist or if your skin is drier / damper than normal or if you are moving more than normal, it will give you readings that are completely meaningless.

I would ignore what the FitBit says and don't worry about it.

Yes, your Fitbit might be malfunctioning. Discuss with your doctor and perhaps find a more reliable way to check out your heart rate.
