When did you work up until before going on maternity leave?

Just that. I want to work as close up to as possible - probably booking 2 weeks of annual leave at the end before I officially start maternity leave. This is so I can afford more time off with baby.

On the other hand I know in the 3rd trimester I’ll probably be really tired and might not even be able to get behind the steering wheel!

When did everyone work up until?

I didn't. Was due to work until 37 weeks, rushed into hospital week 36 with preeclampsia. So I didn't finish work.

My very generous maternity leave allowed me to be off until the baby was a year old. My contract said I could start maternity leave anytime from 29 weeks to 34 weeks before, I don't think at the time we could work up to our due date. I had a very long and difficult commute so went at 34 weeks with DC1 and 29 weeks with DC2.

DC1 - 37w. Baby was 9 days overdue. Could have easily worked to 39w.

DC2 - 38w - baby came on time and it was nice to have a few weeks with DC1 before baby arrived

DC3 - I'd planned to work to 39w but went for a scan at 37w 6d due to measuring small several appointments in a row and was induced that night. Had my scan (there were concerns my placenta was beginning to fail) so I went to work to pack up / move everything forward by a week, went home to see older kids and went into hospital that evening for induction and baby arrived next day at 38w.

Day before my ELCS both times. I have an office job though, so went on full time WFH about a week/10 days before with both babies.

Depends on the type of work you do as to how late it is comfortable to work.
Also, on your commute.
Then luck of the draw with your health.

Due date, and commuted by bike until 39 weeks 🙈. Last week wfh. But I felt ok, my body could handle it, and baby was over a week late. I know others that really were struggling to walk by 32 weeks absolutely could not have done what I did. My ankles were a bit swollen, but tbh the last couple of weeks at work were easier for me than the few before as baby had dropped and I could breathe better 😅

CurbsideProphet · 24/05/2024 16:11

I finished at 35 weeks and took 4 weeks annual leave before my ELCS. I had a lot of leave accrued due to being off sick for a long period while I was pregnant.

Up to my waters breaking, which was about 10 days till my due date.
I had planned to take a fortnight off, but lockdown happened so I carried on working from home.
Waters broke middle of the night, I sent a message to my team the following morning to say I wouldn't be back in

I worked up to my due date. A nice sedentary job, and sitting next to a (frankly terrified, male) first aider.

My children were generally ages overdue.

35 weeks, I was shattered. Couldn't sleep properly. Actuality got more sleep after she was born because at least I slept longer than an hour at a time! It was Christmas time so I had a lovely chilled out time watching films and eating chocolate.
