Cleaner issues

If you got back and found that the cleaner clearly hadn’t wiped over the kitchen worktop for the second time (crumbs and a tea splash from breakfast) would you say something or just stop using them?

I feel wiping the kitchen counters is pretty basic when it comes to cleaning compared to cleaning the oven or skirting boards which is a much less regular job.

For transparency she is here for 2 hours and cleans 2 bedrooms (one en-suite), a bathroom and downstairs loo and then a lounge (carpeted) and kitchen/diner/hall (laminated)

I’m not good with this sort of thing.

Fire her and clean your own house.

What do you mean, a second time?
She cleaned it once and then someone made a mess almost immediately while she was cleaning another room? In her eyes, she's cleaned the kitchen so that room is done ✔️ it's not on her what happens when she's finished the room.

No as in it’s the second time in a row that I’ve noticed the kitchen counter is unwiped. The first time I overlooked it as I thought maybe something distracted her and it’s an oversight.

Do you think all domestic cleaners should now be unemployed? What would you say to the people earning a living from doing this?

Borris · 18/04/2024 18:22

The kitchen is pretty clean as I obviously wipe the counter each night but even if it looks clean at a glance would you not expect the cleaner to Still give it a once over?

Just speak to her and tell her what must be cleaned each visit

NoHeavenNoMore · 18/04/2024 18:32

Oh I see. Then yes, I'd ask her to focus on the kitchen going forwards.

🙄Cheer up dont take everything you read serious.

She has quite a lot to do in 2 hours. I'd suspect she ran out of time.

Dahliasrule · 18/04/2024 19:00

Agree with FairFuming, that is a lot todo I two hours. I have a cleaner for two hours and she does the kitchen diner, hall, landing and stairs, upstairs bathroom and downstairs cloakroom. I prefer to do the rest myself.

Movinghouseatlast · 18/04/2024 19:00

That's an awful lot to do in two hours, unless you just want dusting and hoovering.

My cleaner does 2 bathrooms, sitting room, kitchen and dining room in 4 hours but it is very thoroughly cleaned.
