This is completely irrational to worry about, right?

Used drain unblock gel on bathroom sink plug hole. It was the Mr Muscle gel that goes down the drain. Our toothbrushes live on the side of the sink in a pot.

I’m worried that the chemicals/fumes from the Mr Muscle gel could have risen up from the plug hole and somehow got on our toothbrushes, which the whole family has used to brush their teeth with tonight!

Least worried about DH of all of us 😂 but I’m pregnant with our rainbow baby and just worried that I or DC used these toothbrushes. I really should have moved them before cleaning, like I usually do.

I am going to speak to the midwife about my overthinking at my next appointment, but for tonight does it sound okay?

(I think I know the answer, but grateful to read any reassurance)

Thanks :)

Anything that's volatile enough to rise up from the sinkhole is very unlikely to settle on your toothbrushes, I would think.

In any case, chances are you ran them briefly under the tap before using them, wouldn't you? So if anything did settle, it would get washed off.

I can’t remember if we did. DH would’ve but not sure about us.

We have used that stuff on our bathroom sink with tooth brushes in a nearby pot, absolutely no ill effects.

RosesAndHellebores · 17/04/2024 23:46

It is completely irrational and Mr Muscle isn't that strong anyway.

Your midwife will think you are overthinking it batshit if you mention it and will likely have insufficient scientific knowledge to provide an evidence based answer in any event.

Thank you. Probably wouldn’t even think twice if I wasn’t pregnant, just hormones being haywire and extra anxious about everything I do to keep this baby safe x

I more meant to get strategies and support with worrying, definitely wouldn’t mention this example which even I know deep down is a bit daft

I did the same the other day. No ill effects. Have also done periodically in that past and the same. I use the gel and pour slowly so no splashes or anything.

I understand, and hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well.

The thing is pregnancies after losses are fraught with worry. Healthy pregnancies survive most things though (heavy night, hot baths, war zones, falls down the stairs and worse).

It eases once a pink, screaming newborn is put in your arms. Mine is 25 now and I'll admit I still worry disproportionately about her.

Thank you ❤️you are right that the worry never ends! All worth it though.

Hi OP, I totally get over worrying when pregnant with a rainbow baby, your mind goes crazy about the smallest of things.

Honestly, I wouldn't spend another second worrying about this - unless you actually poured the bleach on the toothbrushes (which I'm guessing you didn't), any splashes, and certainly fumes, would not be enough to do you, your dc or baby any harm at all. Hugs.

Thank you for this and for being so kind, it has really put my mind at ease. I’ll look back on this in the near future and laugh at myself in all likelihood, but when you’re worrying you just want to hear it’ll be ok!
