Does anyone here work for Halifax Home Insurance?

If so please may I ask a question?

We had home insurance with Halifax since 2021. Policy in my husband’s name although we are married. Last year when it was up for renewal, I shopped around and took out a policy elsewhere. He didn’t tell me the Halifax policy was on auto-renew and he didn’t cancel even though he knew I was taking a different policy. So for 10 months we have paid for two policies! Is there any chance Halifax will refund if he explains?

I am so cross with him and he’s refusing to call them as he says there is no point? I’m sure it’s a long shot but if it was in my name, I would try.

No chance at all. Who's to say you wouldn't have claimed from them in the event of damage?

Dual insurance is technically illegal (or was 30 years ago when I did some exams 😂) so I think you may have a chance one or other would have to be backdated cancelled, whether they give you all the money back and which one cancels is another question.

This clause:

If there was no mis-sale or other business mistake, and it was purely a case of ‘accidental’ dual insurance due to a mistake by the policyholder, we’d expect normal industry practice to be followed: that’s for both businesses to refund 50% of their respective premiums. Then the policyholder is put back in a reasonable position – having effectively paid one premium to be covered once. This is because, in the event of a claim, both insurers would have 50% liability for it – so it follows they should receive 50% of the premium to match the risk they’re taking.
Although neither business has made a mistake in this situation, it’s not fair for them to keep more than 50% of the premium when they’re not liable for more than 50% of the risk.
