Royal Navy - DAA Test

DD studied so hard but failed her first attempt at the defence aptitude test. She has one chance to re-take and as this is all she has ever wanted to do she is in bits that may lose her chance. Has anyone failed and subsequently passed? Any tips for passing (other than just to keep practicing)? I would pay for her to be tutored if I thought it would help.

The Navy website says:

If you’re unsuccessful on your DAA you will receive a certificate informing you:

  • You have been unsuccessful for your chosen role, or
  • Details of other roles your DAA results will qualify you for
If you have not achieved the required scores on your assessment for your chosen role you will be able to:
  • Retake the test in 28 days’ time (you can take the DAA up to 2 times) or
  • Discuss your results with your Careers Adviser to see if your results suit another role with the Royal Navy, or
  • If you withdraw or your application is rejected your DAA results are valid for 3 years.

Was it a failure for a particular role, or across the board? Does it say which areas were the problem, e.g. was it numerical reasoning that let her down, or is it just a "fail"?

There's practice on the website. If she's enthusiastic try to get her to retake, apparently lots of people retake according to dd. I asked her how she did but she didn't have to take it as she was on a different track

@givemushypeasachance it was failure for a particular role. She failed verbal reasoning, spatial reasoning and mechanical comprehension.

@mitogoshi she did the practice on the website and bought lots of practice tests and books as well. She basically prepped for over a month so I understand why she’s disappointed. Does your DD know if lots of people pass the second time?

Aren’t they the sort of thing that the 11plus test, and that lots of people do get tutors for? I think it wouldn’t hurt to try and find someone to help. Whether they exist though….. Obviously I know the content will be different but I wonder if an 11plus tutor could help?
