Can pain relief make you feel excited?

I have horrendous pain after a tooth removal that seems to be worsening by the minute Confused

Possibly a dry socket. I've taken some Codeine and I feel excited. Like I want to jump up and down. It hasn't done much for the pain! But it is a weird feeling

I hate it. I feel like I'm going at 100 miles an hour and going to crash, if that makes sense

I was thinking 'why do I feel excited suddenly' like butterflies in my stomach

Only thing I can recall is the codeine. No exciting events, just a lot of stress at the moment!

I've looked it up and main side effects are drowsiness, nausea (definitely feel a bit sickly), and tiredness

That's why they're highly addictive. They are opioids.

Is it just codeine? I think sometimes codeine has caffeine with it too?

Froggy99 · 16/04/2024 21:06

Where did you get the codeine? Do you mean co-codamol?

It will be the codeine. I take it for hip pain but it does nothing for me and I've not found it addictive for that reason. Good luck with the dry socket. I've had it three times. Awful.

It says on pack codeine and doesn't mention caffeine but I've never reacted like that to caffeine

It’s the codeine, that rush is addictive. I remember being in hospital before with a stomach issue and they hooked me up on IV with morphine and I felt so elated, I didn’t know it was possible to be that happy.

I remember when it wore off I thought no wonder people get addicted to this stuff. I can’t explain it, it wasn’t just the relief of being pain free, I actually felt like I was standing on top of the earth wearing a superwoman costume!

I had that with morphine too, but strangely only IV. Liquid morphine made me violently sick!

I had the IV stuff when my gallbladder was infected. I declined it when my appendix burst because I remember how happy I was on it and know full well I have an addictive personality!

To food mind, I don't drink or smoke Grin

@Froggy99 that's it. It is left over from about 4/5 weeks ago when I had a day case surgery

I knew it was alright because I was prescribed it about a year ago when I had a confirmed dry socket with a different tooth

Yes it can, DH was prescribed codeine for a back issue. I warned him it could make him giddy so take half dose to start. He was flying even on half dose!!

Userxyd · 16/04/2024 22:05

Wow. I guess this is what people take when they think they can fly and jump off tall buildings :/ Sounds scary really! Glad you're fully conscious it's all from the drugs!!
