To ask how you got diagnosed with Pcos/ Cushings?

Hi everyone- I suspect I may have cushings disease or pcos or some other hormonal issue.
my reasoning for this is
Very irregular periods ( will be extremely regular for 3 months then leave for 4 months) and has been this way since I started my period at age 11!
I carry a lot of weight in my stomach region & have a lot of stray hairs across my body (not facial) and not enough for others to notice but certainly enough for me to notice.
troubles conceiving, we’ve tried for around 10 months and unsuccessful.
I have terrible cramps and stomach pains 24/7 most days and have terrible fatigue.
my question is, how do I go around getting a diagnoses? Do I ring my GP and explain etc? Do I go private and get blood tests ?
Thanks xx

I went to my GP and exllained i thought i had PCOS and why. GP referred me to endocrinology and an ultrasound. I had an ultrasound with a top professor who was training others that day. Although they explained that PCOS isn't diagnosed by ultrasound alone. My ovaries were textbook. Endocrinology followed up and confirmed diagnosis.

To be honest it did absolutely nothing getting a diagnosis. Endocrinology gave me metformin which did very little and regular follow up. My own research was more useful. To this day i self manage.

Look up myo-innistol it's a supplement that you can easily purchase and is inexpensive. Was life changing for my PCOS. Anecdotal evidence is vast. With some clinical studies showing its benefits for pcos and improving egg quality. I didnt have a period of a yearish. Took it and within a month had a period then a regular cycle. I managed to pinpoint ovulation and concieved first month trying. It also helped with my other PCOS symptoms.

Also just to add PCOS is very common. Cushings isn't. With what you describe far more likely to be PCOS. However as with any uncertain symptoms see your GP to rule out.

I came off the pill to TTC and my period didn't return. Before taking the pill I had regular periods though a slightly longer 6 week cycle.
Went to the GP after 6 months who did some bloods. Got to about the 1 year TTC mark with no period and negative pg test. Referred for ultrasound and my ovaries were classic looking PCOS, covered in cysts. My blood were ok but due to USS and absent periods I was diagnosed with PCOS. From there I was referred to fertility clinic. Got a BFP 2 years and 2 months after I stopped taking the pill.

I would suggest trying to see your GP, explain history with your periods, you're TTC without success and ask for them to test you for PCOS.
Not sure of the rules now, but when we were TTC we couldn't be referred to fertility clinic until we had been trying for a year.

Good luck.
