Where should I go this weekend?

I'm on my own and have never gone anywhere overnight on my own before, I really want to push myself though and try it. Where would you recommend I go and what should I do? I'm not a typical mumsnetter in that I don't have a 6 figure salary so a modestly priced stay is more what I'm looking for.

@GR8GAL

"Snowdonia perhaps? Not miles away."

From East Anglia?

Depends on your perception of "far away". To me, East Anglia to Wales is a tiny distance. Anything that takes more than 5 hours to fly to would be "far" for me.

Fair enough but from East Anglia to Snowdonia cannot be classed as a "tiny distance" because it isn't. It is literally right the other side of the island and approximately a five and a half hour drive by car or 8/9 hours by bus or train. The latter involving several changes. That's a pretty steep round trip for just a weekend (unless you specifically needed to get to Snowdonia) and probably not the best introduction for a first time solo traveller who is testing the water. The OP has also suggested her budget is limited and a 300 mile journey by any mode of transport is going to significantly eat into money she could otherwise spend on a nice hotel or sight seeing.

What I meant is it's hardly a long trek for an overnight or a weekend trip, and if you read my previous responses you'd know that my perception of "far away" wouldn't be in line with the majority. 5.5 hours sounds like a fun road trip to me.

Well, it is a fairly long trek but I suppose it depends on your definition of fun. Not everyone relishes a 5.5 hour drive, especially on their own. It also doesn't seem to particularly fit with the OP's original brief or budget.

"I'm on my own and have never gone anywhere overnight on my own before, I really want to push myself though and try it"

A 5.5 hour drive would certainly be pushing it, and there's no specific budget mentioned, so I suggested glamping in Snowdonia. That sounds like fun to me!

A long trek to me would be anything more than 5 hours flying. Have done NY for weekends, day trips to Paris from London and overnights in Amsterdam, Krakow, Lisbon when cheap flights pop up.

"I don't have a 6 figure salary so a modestly priced stay is more what I'm looking for".

I don't have a 6 figure salary either.
