Best way to help 6yo learn how to "type" on a screen?

My kids have tablets for homework only, they aren't really fussed with them for anything else so they don't use them often. They also use tablets in school for some ict work.

The 6yo homework is usually assigned on Google classroom but he has to complete in a jotter and take back into school at the end of the week. Sometimes he has to type something up and post it onto Google classroom as part of homework but he is very slow and really struggles. He doesn't understand the space button or how to delete a letter to correct a mistake. They say they practice this in school but he still seems to have no idea what he's doing.

Is there anything I can use to help him practice typing on a screen? Any apps? Or is it a case of just sitting with him and correcting him as he goes along?
He struggles with making capital letters or pressing the icon which changes it so he can find a question mark or exclamation point etc.

He seems frustrated at homework time because of this so I would like to help make it easier for him and get him practice while being fun for him.

There's a bitesize touch typing game but I'd recommend it on a cheap laptop to get him used to typing properly.

I think it's just practice more than anything. My 4 year old loves using my laptop to do 'work' and we've done things like type out all of his classmates' names and we're currently engaging in a long term project to type out all the Bluey episodes in order and he also likes to type out his books.. He probably does it for 10 mins a day or so, maybe more at the weekend. I accept that he's a slightly odd child but it really does seem to just need them to do it again and again.

Oh, and I should have added, the use of a keyboard has translated into a tablet/my phone. My iPhone notes are almost all stories he's typed.

I know this doesn't help but personally I think it's much better at this age for their homework to be paper based - they are still learning to read and form letters. I ignored all homework set via the app at this age and requested worksheets. Thankfully his year 2 teacher seems to be of the same school of thought and all homework has been paper based this year, They are still learning the basics - plenty of time for tech in the years to come x
