Are cleaning products from Must Have Ideas as good as they look?

I’m seeing their ads everywhere but the products look almost too good to be true! The Mould Magic gel, drain cleaning sticks etc.

Had anyone ever used them and do they work as well as they claim to?

I have learned the hard way not to trust in facebook ads. If it seems too good to be true, it usually is.

AnnunciataM · 14/04/2024 09:55

Yes I’m aware of that but that’s not what I was asking.

I’ve used the Mould Magic gel and it works quite well; we have a small bathroom with poor ventilation so the grout does get grim quite quickly. It wasn’t great on the orangey deposits though (might be a hard water thing?) and it definitely doesn’t stop the mould coming back.

I live in a hard water area too and get the orange deposits!

The sticks you put down the sink to keep the drains clear intrigue me. I’ve tried everything else but I still get the occasional rotten egg stink from the shower and kitchen sink.

The drain sticks are utterly useless but I like the bamboo kitchen roll, it lasts a long time.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 14/04/2024 11:37

Dh has banned me from buying anymore shit from there.

Thats all l need to say!

Those drain sticks were neither use nor ornament.

Any brand of mould cleaner works what appears to be magic

Ratfan24 · 14/04/2024 11:42

Not a cleaning product but my mum bought a portable stool from there and it wasn't as good as it looked, quite hard to open and she didn't feel confident it locked into place securely when in use it seemed like it might suddenly collapse when sitting on it.

Tattyhabits · 14/04/2024 11:42

The Astonish Mould and Mildew cleaner from the pound shop is fab, it even got the deep in mould off my washing machine seal.

Noideawhatiam · 14/04/2024 11:50

The orange deposits are, I'm pretty sure, limescale that has been colored by soap etc anyway Viakal gets rid of it very well.

AnnunciataM · 14/04/2024 11:51

Yes, I find Viakal pretty good for that.

Back to the drawing board re the smelly drains then!

Biological washing powder and boiling water or bicarb and vinegar can be good for drains.

Although the smells are definitely made worse by modern gel type soaps etc they gunk up the pipes and smells then form. Switching to traditional bar soap, washing power etc and reducing shampoo and conditioner usage to a minimum can make a big difference

Jellifer · 14/04/2024 12:18

Mould magic works great in my bathroom where other brands (astonish etc) have failed

MedievalNun · 14/04/2024 12:18

I've got the mould gel for our bathroom & it seems to have worked well so far. The sink sticks are useless; I use bicarb & vinegar in ours once a fortnight. But their storage cubes are bloody amazing.

LadyWiddiothethird · 14/04/2024 12:20

The drain sticks are one of the most useless idiotic purchases I have ever made!

CeliaCanth · 14/04/2024 12:35

The pink sponges aren’t bad (and you get loads of them). Worked well on our oven.

CornedBeef451 · 14/04/2024 12:52

Has anyone tried one of the brushes on a stick I keep seeing? Like a giant electric toothbrush for cleaning tiles?

One shot for dodgy drains -recommended by my plumber

8misskitty8 · 14/04/2024 12:59

I was sucked in and bought :-

Drain sticks - useless, do nothing.
The drain snake thing that on the videos show huge soap and hair clumps coming out. Again did nothing.
Magic mould gel - this does work but takes ages and expensive for a tiny tube. A spray I bought in home bargains works much better.

Facade1983 · 14/04/2024 13:02

The drain sticks worked for me. But the mould stuff didn't and nor did the inky roller meant to obscure personal details on correspondence. The loo brush is good for not getting clogged with undesirable debris, but tends to flick said debris over the user's face. The microfibre cloths are good but I don't like the pink sponges much. So a mixed bag really.

Outmycomfortzone · 14/04/2024 13:16

I bought the drain sticks - rubbish - I could have saved money and put cocktail sticks down - same effect. - zilch!
i did find their magic erasers good - but then saw them a lot cheaper in b. &m / home bargains/ heron etc

I like astonish but I find it does the black well but not shifting the orange

beachcitygirl · 14/04/2024 15:09

I have the glass and window cleaner and it's brilliant

TashieWoo · 14/04/2024 15:14

I have the rubber broom that came with the handheld version, really useful for picking up dust in hard to reach areas and cleaning skirting boards.

Freeasabird76 · 14/04/2024 15:20

You can get the drain stick from some £ shops, unlike everyone else I found them effective on a stinky bathroom sink so used them on kitchen sink and bath too, haven't been able to get them for a while and back to smelly sink.
