Holidays in the sun - what is wrong with that

I was listening to some radio piece about residents in a Spanish island wanting fewer UK tourists. There was a girly middle class commentator on this story supporting the islanders claiming British tourists are awful, wanting just to drink and eat bad food, dressing inapproriately,, drinking to much and being leary. All the Brit abroad sterotypes.

However I feel there is a large amount of class.snobbery here and a lot of families just want a week or two somewhere hot, have a few beers, relax and try and get a tan. Some of us don't want a.cultured or stressful holiday and I am very much each to his own on this.
As long as there isn't any breaking of laws I think we shouldn't be ashamed of breaks to the costs del sol etc.

Prices in the UK are extortionate and our weather is miserable. Viva Espagna!

I don’t understand why people want to stay by the pool all day and eat English breakfasts. They’re not interested in exploring or absorbing the culture.

I’m currently on holls close to some beautiful beaches and the swimming pools are jammed full of holiday makers - I suspect 50% of them don’t even know the beaches are there.

Or maybe those 50% really aren't that keen on beaches? I love the idea of the beach, but the reality is always sand, so much sand, going in the sea and then freaking out when something touches me (I hate the thought of things in the sea!), people hassling me to buy stuff all the time... Basically, I'd happily avoid the beach on holiday no matter how beautiful...

Good Lord no, you sound extremely common and will surely upset the locals 😜😜😜

It's not just holidays in the sun though is it? Many people go just to get a tan and get pissed. They're the ones causing the problems because they sit next to a pool drinking all day, then cause trouble for the locals.
Unfortunately certain destinations attract a lot of tourists like this, not to mention the fact that Spain is an easily accessible destination for those just wanting a tan, alcohol and parties.

We're on a quiet Greek island currently with hardly any tourists, because there's hardly any hotels and it takes 2-3 flights to get here. People don't understand why we pay more and spend so much time travelling to go places like this, but it's because we don't want to be near drunk lairy tourists on overcrowded beaches.
Spain is unfortunately very popular for this, for the reasons above. So yea, I'm not surprised.

Girly was a typo......same with espana...woops.

I personally see how anti social behaviour would annoy anyone but I think there is some snobbery about people window is he their week in the sun. I sign want to spend every holiday in the Costs del Sol but there is something attractive about guaranteed weather and relatively cheap food and drink. I think maybe it's ca as if a few rotten apples?

What were you trying to type instead of ‘girly’? Why not just admit that you had a chip on your shoulder about someone you perceived as ‘middle class’ looking down on you?

What is wrong is short term lets taking away housing that could be used year round for someone who is putting into the local economy 52 weeks a year.

Not just a Spanish problem, think many parts of Cornwall for example.
