Never stops eating, but still skinny?

My son is 6.5.

He is very athletic, slender, muscle but it looks like 0 body fat!

He must eat about 3000 calories a day.... yes, protein included

Why doesn't he put on weight? Stays the same centile

He does a lot of swimming, but as the saying goes, you can't outrun your fork

Or can you? He does start his day bouncing up and down at 4.30am. And doesn't stop even for a sit down during the day. Has a tablet but stands up and keeps moving when watching Confused and is like a wriggly worm when say down to eat, just can't sit still

He is the healthiest, most athletic looking child you will see but he eats enough calories to be obese

He has ASD/ADHD so restricts his diet somewhat but overall for those conditions, does eat quite a variety

Blood sugar normal range

I was like this til my early 20s. My metabolism is much slower now but I still feel the same ravenous hunger so I'm distinctly rounder.

Sorry just to clarify, the point is I thought you couldn't outrun a bad diet of eating too much

He is very average height so the amount of calories he does eat would make him obese I'd have thought

I couldn't eat his diet as an adult woman (I am not skinny! Size 12) I would be huge. I am short though, but so is he in comparison to many 6/7 year olds

I really wouldn't worry about this! He's a healthy & active child, that's all.

I was exactly the same until late 20s when suddenly found I had to eat like a normal person lol

Oh the dreaded adulthood! I was shocked at how much less I could get away with once I hit 23. It was like a switch overnight

I've never been able to get away with anywhere near his intake of food though Grin

Kids are like that.
some never stop eating.

As long as it's all healthy food and not mainly crisps and chocolate, there's no problem

Thank you

I was worried the fat was hiding behind his heart, arteries or something

But he's as fit as a flea so maybe not. His stamina is incredible

My DD is 3 and she can't get away with too much food, it's evident. Very different builds

Unless he's eating lots of processed and fatty foods, you don't need to worry about his heart :)

Sounds like my six year down to her energy. Maybe he is just going to be slim? I eat quite a bit and have always been slim.

She is only three. Slightly odd way to talk about her.

Fidgeters are naturally slim plus, as a male, he'll have more muscle than females which also uses more calories.

WhiteLeopard · 13/04/2024 19:57

This is the difference between being a child and an adult. They need lots of calories if they're going through a growth spurt. My DS age 14 eats loads and is as skinny as anything!

Yep same, and I'm only 5ft tall. I could eat five meals a day and drink tons of alcohol and was still a size 6-8 maximum until I was about 25. Then I was a normal 8-10.

Now in my 40s post kids I would be a 12 (which would make me overweight on my tiny frame) if I didn't eat normally and more healthily - which in now do

LostittoBostik · 13/04/2024 20:00

Also let your three year old be three! A lot of them thin our very suddenly when they get to 5 and that toddler shape disappears

LostittoBostik · 13/04/2024 20:01

*thin out

My OH and I were like that - could put away anyhting and everyhting and not gain a pound or two for more than a day or so, now both in early sizties, have to be a bot more careful but not that careful other than ensureing we stay out of the pre diabtes zone
