Help with the itinerary for Wales

Can't do a beach holidays this year so we are thinking abut visiting Wales. I think we will have 4-5 days.

We love history, nature and museums but can't walk too long or too challenging a terrain as we will have a 2.5 year old in a tow.

We will be traveling from Yorkshire, so maybe it would make sense to start from North East, not sure!

Really grateful for any tips, don't know nothing about Wales!

National Museum of Wales in St. Fagan’s is brilliant, and free 😃

It depends where you want to go. It’s a fairly big place.

North has mountains and amazing beaches. West has lovely beaches. South has cities and beaches. Mid has mountains and beautiful countryside. What do you like to do?

Bluestone is fab for kids on the West coast

Caernarfon for the Castle, steam train and harbour, Abersoch for the beach. Anglesey is worth a day out.

Welsh mountain zoo is lovely and has fabulous views

Conwy in North Wales ticks all your boxes: Conwy Castle is one of the finest medieval castles in the world; beach okay for a toddler; gorgeous town full of interesting independent shops; stunning Deli and restaurant; brilliant fish & chip shop; Plas Mawr Tudor House is fascinating; close to Llandudno for more obvious seaside attractions; not a bad drive from Yorkshire, especially with a toddler; you could even stop off at Chester Zoo en-route.

Following - we were thinking about a holiday in Wales this summer

Stay in Llandudno. It's very child friendly. Visit Conwy Castie, Welsh Mountain Zoo, Bodnant Gardens & Portmerion.

You can still do a beach holiday in Wales, there are lots of lovely beaches. I would recommend Pembrokeshire, Freshwater West, West Angle Bay, Pembroke Castle, Tenby, Barafundle Bay, Stackpole & Broadhaven off the top of my head..

Castles, you've Conwy, Caernarfon and Beaumaris.

Beaches, you've Rhosneigr , Treaddur Bay, Red Wharf Bay, Abersoch.

Bodnant Gardens, Lake Crafnant, lake Geirionydd,

Manorafon farm park, Abergele, children can feed the animals. Great for little ones.

Penrhyn Castle has a museum, lovely gardens.

Great Orme mines, national slate museum

Llechwedd slate caverns on a little train.

Agree re. Newport in Pembrokeshire - we hit it in a heatwave 2 or 3 summers ago! However I did get stung by a jellyfish!

CelticPromise · 27/04/2024 23:06

Agree St Fagan's would be great. Glynneath area is close to easy walking waterfalls. Mumbles (Swansea) has nice places to eat and shop, fab beaches close by, easy drive down the Gower. Not too far when you've limited time.

CelticPromise · 27/04/2024 23:07

Mumbles also has a good castle!

I've got 4 nights booked in June in Llandudno - struggling to see how I will fit in all the things I want to do!

IWanderedLonely · 28/04/2024 00:05

Stop at Rhos-on-Sea, about 5 miles east of Llandudno. They've just had a fortune spent on pumping gallons of sand on the beach ( really safe and shallow) and the promenade titivated with lots of child friendly activities.
