I need this for one of my parents. I couldnt see an IT section on here, or a section about the elderly (although I could have sworn that Ive seen both before), so sorry if this is in the wrong place

They cant 'swipe' on a screen but ideally would have access to watsapp or other internet stuff.

Does this exist, Ive been googling but couldnt see anything that fits the bill, there are button phones but I cant work out if they are internet accessible (and Im not great with tech myself)

Is he definitely using the pad of his finger? Has he removed his fingerprints as an ex MI6 agent? Grin

@soupfiend everyone needs a family member with some mystery to them. My Dad is a bit like this.

Yes you can set a shortcut on Samsung so that the side button answers calls.

I have a Samsung phone and it is shit though. I have to swipe randomly in a temper to get it to do things. No problem with my iPhone. Maybe try and iPhone in a shop. No swiping needed for picking up calls, it’s a touch.

There's definitely accessible features on iPhones that may help, double tap instead of swipe for instance and Face ID. An Apple shop on a quiet day would be good or a shop that sells multiple brands, sounds strange but larger Tesco's sometimes have a little in store section manned by very knowledgeable young staff who seem to have mostly older customers needing a lot of help, try them too.

Just a reminder that you do need to replace a stylus every so often. By swiping/dabbing it slowly removes a special coating and they become less responsive over time. Maybe he needs a new dabber too.

Too late to edit. This is from last August. The phone has physical buttons to answer and end calls. The tablet looks amazing actually.

www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B93W4RDB?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Sorry I don't know how to do proper links.

CatOnTheLap · 16/04/2024 16:27

@Lolololololol thanks for the link. It’s a little more expensive than I was hoping!

I thought the same. There seems to be others on Amazon though that are cheaper. Might be worth having a look.

I just wanted to add that my MiL has a similar issue, in that swiping/pressing any screen/electronic control only occasionally works. She puts it down to her cold fingers. But it makes a smartphone impossible. She has an old 'brick' mobile and a Chromebook that can be used in tablet or keyboard mode.
