Boys wedding outfits?

Rubyrubyrubyrubee · 13/04/2024 07:49

Going back to U.K. for a wedding in July. Haven’t been to one for years. DSs are now 7&10 and live in t shirt shorts and bare feet (we live in Aussie). Help - what do kids usually wear? Do I have to hire suits?
Also our DCs are only two of a few kids who are invited so I don’t want to stuff up like I always do.

No suits. Just trousers and a shirt.

ZipZapZoom · 13/04/2024 08:02

Chinos, a smart shirt and smart shoes. No need for a suit.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 13/04/2024 08:03

Why not check what the other kids are wearing?

I don't think they need suits, unless you are close family or one of the wedding party possibly and going to be in lots of pictures- if that's the case, I would just ask the bride what they want them to wear. Otherwise, shirt and smart trousers is fine.

Revelatio · 13/04/2024 08:09

Smart shorts are fine. We did smart navy chino shorts and a white linen loose comfortable short sleeved shirt.

Thank you all - so no ties? Hadn’t thought about shoes 🫠Mine go to school in crocs - is best bet looking in Clarks when we get there?

Don’t know any of them unfortunately except for the bride’s children, but don’t want to bothering her with questions if I can help it

No need for ties. Do they not have any smart shoes at all? If not then yes pick some up when here but no need to go for somewhere extortionate like Clarks especially if they'd re unlikely to be worn again, any smart shoes would be fine.

I’d probably head to a big Sainsbury’s if I wanted kids shoes.

Rocknrollstar · 13/04/2024 08:27

Chinos and a polo shirt.

StandardLampski · 13/04/2024 08:28

Mine wore trousers, a matching waistcoat, a pretty casual short sleeve shirt, and canvas style trainers , was fine .

No uniform here so was trying to aim for smart , slightly worried about getting him to wear more formal clothes but it was fine and the trainers ( like converse) were fine, and suitable for running about outside with the kids, unlike formal shoes which would have been trashed / not work again . 6yrs

mitogoshi · 13/04/2024 08:34

Smart chino style shorts (dress shorts) are fine with a short sleeved plainish shirt (not a polo short) and leather shoes or even deck shoes, they don't need to be full on school shoes. Supermarkets sell shoes here, I'd head to a big Asda, Sainsbury's or Tesco on arrival once you know the crucial weather situation! If it's typical showery weather and there's outside space, canvas shoes like vans will get soggy. A jumper each will likely be needed too

thedendrochronologist · 13/04/2024 08:55

Chino or chino shorts, short sleeved short with a bit of detail eg texture or light pattern

Brand new converse or unbranded ones
Or some light brown boat/ moccasin shoes

Rubyrubyrubyrubee · 13/04/2024 09:05

Thank you all so much!

Don’t buy anything formal they’re never likely to wear again. So shorts or trousers, shirt & trainers in a non lurid colour. They’ll probably be glad of the trainers in the constant rain we’re getting ( if it wasn’t a wedding I’d suggest wellingtons 😂).
Any of the big supermarkets should be able to provide all that inexpensively & look smart. You might want to pick up jumpers for them as well while you’re in there, England even in July isn’t Australia!

Mine always wore chinos, a T and an over shirt. And Converse. Smart, comfortable and not too "cosplaying a grown up"

helenamommy · 04/11/2024 12:53

I get it—finding the right outfit for boys at weddings can be a bit of a hunt, especially if you want something bright and comfortable. You want them to look polished but not too stiff.

A little tuxedo can be a great pick, and many fun styles don’t look too “grown-up” but still feel special for the day. I’d start with something simple, maybe a classic color like navy or grey, which is timeless and works well for formal and semi-formal weddings.

There’s also this fabulous spot, www.gentlemansguru.com/product-category/wedding-tuxedos/ , where you can find a lot of unique wedding tuxedos. They have options that feel dressy but are still comfy enough for kids to wear all day.
