Is it cheaper to book holiday with a last minute deal?

Me and DH want to go away in October for our 1 year wedding anniversary. We do not want to book in advance incase I fall pregnant - I know you can go away when pregnant but I have a history of 4 miscarriages and do not want to be away from home if this happens. So we want to see if we can book a week or 2 before on a last minute deal, is it cheaper this way or the same or even more expensive? We are looking at somewhere like Amsterdam for a few days ✈️

It really depends. Assuming you don't want to go during half term, you will find something that's certainly no more expensive than it would be if you booked now, but you might have less choice or if you have very specific requirements as in you'd like to stay in a certain hotel, or go on a certain flight, it might be more expensive or even booked up.

But if you're flexible, you could well find something that's cheaper than booking now. Eg if you just want 'a city break' but have a choice of airports and airlines you can use and don't mind whether it's Amsterdam, Copenhagen or Berlin etc whichever looks like best value at the time then you've probably nothing to lose by waiting.

We usually travel outside the main season and often book very late (closest was 6 days before travel) and we've always found somewhere we want to go at a reasonable price.

Good luck with TTC whatever you decide Smile

I always book last minute and find the prices very reasonable (probably last minute cancellations being filled).

If you have a bucket-list of places you'd like to visit, search all of those rather than deciding you want to go to one particular place. Also have in mind your non-negotiables in terms of accommodation facilities. Flexibility and compromise is the key.

If you have specific, non-negotiable requirements, book early.

As long as you are not too fussy then you can get amazing deals. Just remember you can only book what's left, so more choice it's it's term time obviously. We've had as much as an 80% discount on the full advertised price (TUI).

Ps my dd managed to get a cruise flying 36 hours later for £250 originally £1800 for instance. That was over the phone with TUI (marella)

Years ago, I would go to a travel agent with a packed bag in the boot of the car and say "I can leave now, where can I go?"

I had some amazing deals, all inclusive, and self catering.

Don't know if that's possible these days though.
