How do I continue to build my credit?

Had a CCJ many years ago after an ex used my credit.

For the last decade I've just not used credit at all so had zero lending history and an extremely low score with several negative things on my file (Internet contract etc)

I've paid off all debts.
All the negative points fell off my account so that made a difference.

I got a high interest credit card that I've been using for months, utilising just one fifth of the available credit and paying it off immediately so no interest.

I went from low 100s to low 500s in my credit score.

My goal is to be able to get a small mortgage

So how do I continue to build now when I'm in the 'fair' category.

Will just using the credit card monthly over the next year, missing no payments, keeping the utilisation low, be enough to do that?

Accept any offers of higher limits on it but don't use more than a quarter of the available balance regularly. Occasionally use a big chunk more and pay it off as soon as the balance is due.

Make sure you are registered to vote where you live and have a long standing bank account.

Thankyou.

Yes I'm registered to vote here and my banks been same for about 7 years.

I do only have a basic bank account though with HSBC as that's all I was allowed to open with poor credit.

I also have a Starling account.

Should I try and open a bank account with an overdraft?

No an overdraft won't really help. A basic account is fine.

Just keep using your card responsibly and of you can get anything on short term finance like furniture, flooring etc that will help too.
