School shoes - full size or half size with only one term to go?

My son is 8 with big feet and his current Start-rite school shoes are (adults) size 5.5F. His feet are almost at the end of them, to the point where he needs new shoes.

There’s only one term left until the end of the school year - around 3 months.

He has worn the same Start-rite model for years and is always an F width fitting. This time we cannot get to a shop to have them properly fitted, so I’m just going to order a bigger size in an F.

I could buy a whole size bigger - 6.5F for £60. Or half a size bigger - 6F for £30.

Does anyone have any helpful thoughts? I’m thinking probably a full size, but it’s quite a price difference.

Tough one at that age as their feet grow so quickly but ive done that in that past and the full size has lasted through to September. Its a gamble though.

I'd order both and try them then send back the ones you don't want. He will need shoes next year, so I wouldn't worry about it only being 3 months to the end of the year.

Same situation here, my 8yo is just going to wear her black PE trainers every day, don't know if that's an option at your school?

I’d get the bigger ones and he can carry on wearing them into September. Mine had new shoes last Easter and wore them until Christmas, I’ve never replaced just because it’s September.

Buy the 6.5s
And replace when he outgrows them - he doesn't need new shoes in September.

Sadly black PE trainers aren’t an option for us, PJ04JCW, but a good workaround in your situation - thank you for sharing.

I really don’t mind buying a new pair of shoes, it’s just the big price difference between the two different sizes that I’m finding a bit galling. I probably ought to go with the larger ones, which seems to be the consensus here too! Thank you all for your wise counsel!
