My daughter went to college after school, but due to covid and anxiety she was in a bad place so dropped put and got a job. She's now feeling a lot better and wants to go back (to do something different). Does anyone know how this will work? Is it still free? Will she get any money to live on? (She'll prob keep the job but won't be able to do many hours-shes ND so needs time to recharge) she's asking my advice but I have no idea.

Thanks x

Yes, she'll get the same loans as if she's just leaving college now
The system is set up for young adults to make little detours (think gap years as an example). So cost of university fees itself should be covered by the loan and the living expenses loan (calculated separately), will depend on your financial circumstances.
I would encourage her to think about her year out positively, she's learnt and developed significantly.

Google student finance and make sure your on the gov website (sorry can't link I'm on my phone). Loads of information on there x

I think the Op was talking about college ie post 16 not university?

Are you asking about sixth-form college and similar, OP? What is your DD's longer-term plan? Is she hoping to gain qualifications that will get her into university?

As your DD's now 20, would she consider doing an Access course as an alternative to A Levels? She may be able to find a part-time one that will enable her to continue working certain days/hours if she needs to.

I believe Access courses are funded by an Advanced Learner Loan, but that loan is written off if the student then goes on to university and graduates. Hopefully your local college(s) will be able to give you and her guidance on that.

Best of luck with finding a course that works for your DD.
