Help me understand what I would be entitled to

I’m seriously considering splitting from my husband.
we jointly own a home and share a child together. I work 25hrs a week on min wage and he’s self employed earning good money.
the main thing stopping me from making the decision is finances.
would I be entitled to financial help?

It depends on many things OP and there’s simply not enough information here to say.

Have a look on entitledto website and that will give you a better picture.

Be aware though that if you sell the current house and split the equity, which I assume you would, then your “share” depending on how much it is could take you over the savings limit for UC meaning you are not entitled to help.

Equity from the house can be discounted for up to a year I believe if it’s to be used towards buying another property, I could be wrong on that but I’m sure that’s the case.

Yes you will be entitled to financial help, including child maintenance from your husband. The government calculators are usually more accurate that Entitledto.

Start by getting a full time job asap. Concentrate on improving your own situation and not on how much you may receive in benefits

If he's self employed you have to be prepared for him to fiddle his earnings to reduce child maintenance.

As pp says when the house equity is divided, then if it is more than 16k it can be disregarded for a period of time both whilst the house is being sold and until it is put into another property. If not planning to buy another property then if the your share of the proceeds are over 16k you would not be eligible to claim Universal credit. You should make an application for child maintenance.
