Can I buy the sausages without the beans?

I don't even know if it is a thing because google is not being very helpful. Newly Gluten Free DD has found a GF meal she likes which is the sausages from Heinz beans and sausages on toast. Its a huge win as she is a very picky eater. Sadly, Heinz do not seem to do just the sausages. Is there anything similar out there that might compare. She hates beans and I dont want to have to buy a tin of beans and sausages just to chuck the beans away. TIA

I think the closest you could get would be skinless chipolatas but you'd have to be very careful of the ingredients.
Many's the time dh has been felled by his careless sausage selection.

I have been reading and re reading every single ingredients list. Its a huge learning curve.

In related news, my kitchen has never been so clean and tidy 😂

The tinned Heinz ones are just low meat hot dog sausages, ingredients:

  • Pork (55%), Water, Rice Flour, Pea Starch, Pork Fat, Vegetable Fibre, Salt, Spices, Emulsifier - Triphosphates

So try to find hot dog sausages that match those the closest - the Ye Olde Oak ones are mostly chicken so probably won't taste the same.

The least hideous ones I find are the Herta ones in the flat packet (Aldi do a good dupe) but they're much higher in meat content and have smoke flavouring so won't be the same.

But at 17, she can do her own googling, surely?

Yes but even when they are 17 its nice to help your kids out.

Uncooperativefingers · 10/04/2024 18:10

I think they're just frankfurters cooked in the heinz tomato sauce. I imagine it's one of those thinks you'll try to approximate but never get 100% correct though tbh.

Thank you all for the replies. Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest that was all she would eat and I need to sneak them into her diet using nefarious means. It was just a win for her at a crappy time so wanted to help make it better for her. I thought it might just be a stretch too far.

However, it does seem that others would like just the sausages too. Maybe I will appeal to Heinz....

In this scenario, I'd try contacting Heinz and asking.

WRT hotdogs we use the Dinos little franks for my coeliac and she’s fine with them , they are also 75% pork so better quality . Most good quality sausages / chipolatas are gf - Tesco finest do cocktail ones and pigs in blankets , M &S do gf ones and some of the independents like Heck .

AutoTomato · 23/09/2024 11:49

Vienna sausages might be the closest, had them a very long time ago and iirc they are a similar size and mushy texture. They can come gluten free, but depending on where you are they are quite expensive for what you get in a tin.

WhiteBedding · 23/09/2024 11:53

I realise this is an old thread but my DD only likes the bean juice I.e the sauce so maybe me & OP could club together and find a third member who only likes dry beans and thus share tins without wastage.

GPNightmare · 23/09/2024 12:10

I think Heinz did briefly sell the sauce separately at one time about 20 years ago, @WhiteBedding. Or maybe I am mixing it up with flavoured frozen veg 😂 I seem to remember chocolate flavoured runner beans and something “baked bean” flavoured 🤮That’s not much help unless you have a time machine anyway 😂 Have you tried any of the copycat recipes to make your own sauce?

Literally never occurred to me to look up a sauce recipe, who knew! DD mainly only gets her fix at breakfast buffets which mean basically only if we stay at a premier inn so approx 2x per year. It's the highlight of a hotel for her, bean juice on barely toasted bread 🤣

Wee Willy Winkies ingredients list :

Ingredients
Pork (44%), Water, Rusk [Wheat Flour (Wheat Flour, Calcium Carbonate, Iron, Niacin, Thiamin), Salt, Raising Agent (Ammonium Bicarbonate)], Pork Rind, Wheat Starch, Salt, Emulsifier (Sodium Diphosphates), Dextrose, Yeast Extract, Preservative (Sodium Metabisulphite), Herb and Spice Extracts (Sage, Pepper, Capsicum, Ginger, Mace, Nutmeg, Allspice, Coriander), Antioxidant (Ascorbic Acid), Food Colour (Carmine), Pork Fat, Filled into an Alginate Based Casing which contains: Seaweed Extract (Sodium Alginate), Fibre (Cellulose), Modified Starch

44% meat! 🤮

Pork sausages only have to have 42% meat in them to be called 'pork' sausages. There are many brands that hover in the 40s in terms of meat %. It's something I always check the label of, even with no allergies etc in the house.

As someone else who's gluten free - most gluten free things are awful but sausages are the exeption

They're always the best as they're not full of rusk to bulk them out

LostFaithinPolice · 24/09/2024 08:43

Tinned hotdogs won’t taste the same as they have that Smokey taste.
I think in America they have them called Vienna sausages in a can (I haven’t had them in years so I don’t know if they’re identical but I think they are- certainly they’re the exact same texture as the Heinz ones!) so might be worth googling Vienna sausages and see if you can get any.
