First pic was yesterday second pic was taken today so day 2. Had an upper right molar extracted yesterday and have been an anxious wreck in case I get dry socket, doing everything I’m supposed to etc. I’m just wondering can anyone Tell me if this looks somewhat normal? I’m not in major discomfort just a slight ache in my jaw which I think is from where the dentist was twisting and pulling. Feel so miserable struggling to eat and all round feeling sorry for myself 😣😣

I don't know, but bumping this up for you

Andthereyougo · 10/04/2024 14:23

I don’t know but have you rinsed with salt water several times a day?
You can always call dentist for advice, go back for them to have a look at it.

GingerScallop · 10/04/2024 14:30

Doesn't look good. Try and book a dentist appointment. If you can afford it, even a private one. If not, a gp who might (hopefully) fast track you!

I know the feeling, had exactly the same last year. Mine looked liked yours and I panicked and went back to dentist. If you're not in pain, it's fine.
Keep rinsing though.
It's hell trying to eat and thinking everything's sitting in the hole but the gum heals very quickly, from the bottom up. Even if something does get in there, there should be a thin film at the bottom now anyway.
Keep an eye on it, if it really starts to hurt/throb then go back ❤️

Only just started that this afternoon as dentist said to wait 24 hours! But I’m not in major pain or discomfort so I think I’ll see how I get on

It looks like a healing socket. There’s no inflammation

Thank you, the actual extraction site doesn’t feel sore. It’s more my jaw bone and the tooth next to where it once was that are achey if anything. Thank you xx

Thank you so much! It’s so hard not to panic, especially with a dental issue. I’ve found myself obsessing over it since having the tooth out 😣 will keep and eye and consult dentist if anything changes xx

Looks OK healing tooth sockets look all different colours. Don't rinse too much. Follow instructions from the dentist.

Nitgel · 10/04/2024 14:57

I found these heal well if left alone. Too much rinsing could do more harm than good. Imo anyway.

Maybeicanhelpyou · 10/04/2024 14:58

Looks like a normal day 2 healing socket, rinse as advised. Try to leave it alone, don’t poke or suck at it.

Thank you for the reassurance have only rinsed once today. Think I’m just worried as it’s gone from red to an almost grey colour, it definitely isn’t an empty hole I think I’m just panicking in case a blood clot hasn’t formed 🤢

Thank you! I haven’t touched it at all nor will I touch it, the most I’m doing is trying to take awkward pictures and videos of it to keep an eye on it. It’s making me really anxious, I suppose the fact I’m not in pain is a good thing

Looks normal. Rinse as advised by your dentist. The clot will go grey

Thank you. Everywhere I’ve looked online says clots turn a deep red colour, maybe I should stay off Google

It looks normal, they do look grim when they heal and really hard not to get food stuck in there. Brown or grey are normal colours even though you'd expect it to be pink or red like a scab. Just follow dentist's advice, be careful when chewing and don't worry if it aches slightly, apparently you will truly know it if you get a dry socket.

LauderSyme · 10/04/2024 15:09

I've had extractions and it is normal for the jawbone near the site to ache, because pulling a tooth out by it's roots is pretty major.

Don't rinse too vigorously as that may dislodge any blood clot.

Unfortunately I got dry socket twice and the pain is immense, so if you get that you'll know! The pain starts about three or four days after the extraction. The other major symptom of dry socket is a peculiar persistent taste.

I tried with soup last night but gave up after about 4 mouthfuls because I’m that scared of it hitting the hole and hindering the healing process. Tried scrambled eggs this morning and was the same 😣 yes I’ve heard that about dry socket, if I ever get an ache it’s always on my jaw bone (and only a dull one) from where I presume the tooth was yanked out. Wasn’t an easy extraction 🥴

thank you xx

@wsmummy2024

It’s more my jaw bone and the tooth next to where it once was that are achey if anything.

That's perfectly normal - it's because of how your mouth has been wrenched open and held to get the tooth out but you couldn't feel it at the time because of the local anaesthetic. You may get a bruise on your jawbone too. I can't tell you if the pics are normal or not as I've never examined my extraction sites in detail - but as long as you don't have any pain there and are following dentist's instructions re rinsing gently with hot salt water and eating on the other side for a while you should be fine . Avoid food like rice which could get within the socket .

Obviously if you do feel any pain which gets worse than the normal 24 hour dull ache, then contact your dentist right away as you'll need antibiotics .

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 10/04/2024 16:23

It's also possible that very small particles of tooth can find their way to the surface within the site. This is normal, you don't need to do anything .

I think you are over worrying about the eating - stick to soft food, not too hot and eat the other side of your mouth and you should be fine .
