Really need help deciding on what holiday to book - we all want different things!

So confused, I’m going round in circles so thought I’d ask you nice lot for some help!

I love a sunny holiday, my ideal would be Spain, a swimming holiday with lots of beautiful pools and good food. That’s my idea of a good time BUT we have a 10 month old baby, I’m an anxious person and the idea of the heat being too much, baby falling on slippery tiled floors, not having all our stuff is too much so I’m happy with a holiday park in England, somewhere four hours max from London.
DS wants water slides and an outdoor pool.
DH wants somewhere classy and interesting, he’d much rather do a sightseeing, historical and cultural holiday and is bored by the idea of a holiday park.
The baby just wants milk, sleep and her routine.

How do we meet all our requirements? Help much appreciated!

A cruise down the Italian coast? DH gets his sightseeing, DS pools and slides, you get a safe room with baby stuff provided, and possibly a crèche if you wanted it. Classy cruises do exist, you don't have to do the all inclusive caravan park at sea type!

Mallorca but in half term, not summer, as it will be slightly less hot. Beaches are very baby-friendly, buy an umbrella. Palma and Soller and other lovely towns provide culture, and it's sure there are water parks there. Flight 2.5 hours from UK. Hire a car or stay near Palma or Soller.

Crete or Rhodes? Look for a hotel with slides, hire a car to go see the sights. I don't think it's too hot May/June time.
We stayed in a Tui Sensatori a few years ago in Heraklion, Crete, was beautiful.

The things you and your son want (swimming, pools, nice food) are fairly easy to accommodate in different places, has your husband suggested somewhere he would be interested in visiting in the U.K. and then you can both see if that place has the things you and your son want?

Or if finances permit, could you spend say 5 nights at a holiday park and then later a long weekend somewhere more for sightseeing rather than trying to find everything in one holiday.

I also wouldn’t write off a trip abroad. I go to Spain a lot and have gone with a small baby and continue to see loads of people there with babies. Hotels are catered to children and plenty of shade around pool etc, air con. Like others have said Majorca is a short flight, has lots of lovely cultural things as well as the weather, food and pools. And with no cooking and and rooms being cleaned it can feel like a real break, with loads of ways immediately around you to entertain your elder child without effort.

Talipesmum · 10/04/2024 11:13

How old is your older child? And have you done your DH style holiday much before with children? That’s my and my DH’s favourite type of holiday too, but we paused it when the kids were little in favour of staying with family in holiday cottages etc as it was easier to manage young children that way. My point is it’s great to want that type of holiday but it’s not easy to actually achieve it with a 10 month old.

Perhaps a holiday park in northern France with the possibility of a few day trips to lovely castles and villages?

Jersey? The Merton Hotel has an outside pool and indoor pool with a flume.

Sirzy · 10/04/2024 11:36

A cruise from Southampton?

A cruise from Southampton?

This sounds the best option to meet all of your criteria.

NanFlanders · 10/04/2024 11:39

There's a Eurocamp near Rome?

TheBirdintheCave · 10/04/2024 11:41

How about Austria? We're taking our three year old and (will be) three month old to Vienna in August. It won't be as hot as Italy or Spain etc and there are options for lake or pool swimming, plenty of cities and sights to explore and gorgeous scenery :)

Pineapplewaves · 10/04/2024 12:16

There are lots of hotels that have multiple pools, so your DS can have slides and baby can have a paddling pool. Going all inclusive gives everyone the chance to eat what they like plus unlimited cold drinks and ice creams without it costing a fortune. You'd be surprised how little baby stuff you can live without when going abroad with a baby. Also lots of hotels hire baby baths, sterilisers, changing mats, pushchairs etc and you get a cot for baby as standard. I think you overthinking and it is very possible to have a nice holiday abroad.

WalkWithMeSuzieLee · 10/04/2024 12:20

We had an amazing week in Budapest with young kids! Plenty of culture plus a fab waterpark on Margaret Island (we went twice) and a decent zoo. Most of the centre is walkable, there are loads of little play areas dotted around and public transport is cheap, reliable and easy to navigate.

Butterflysunshine01 · 10/04/2024 12:25

I'd go to a eurocamp in France or Italy ! Loads of fun swimming activities, but if you find one near a big city or town, lots of history for your DH, go for a luxury lodge and you can sunbathe outside easily.

ErinAoife · 10/04/2024 12:28

If you don't want the heat because of the baby, you are right to stay in the uk, bluestones in nice in Wales, lots of activities for your Ds, plenty to see around or go to Ireland

bettybyebye · 10/04/2024 12:36

A Eurocamp in Holland or Northern France? Not as hot as Spain but still exciting outdoor pools etc for DS. We’re off to Duinrell this summer - theme park and water park on site for the kids, plus only 30 mins outside of Amsterdam for culture. Or Look at Little Clogs Holidays who specialise in kid friendly holidays in Holland and Belgium. Both small countries so easy to get to interesting places to visit for DH too

Newgirls · 10/04/2024 12:56

St Ives? Culture with the galleries and Minack theatre. Walking etc. Beach and boat trips for kids?

Pieceofpurplesky · 10/04/2024 14:36

Guernsey. You can drive over, lots of beaches and hotels/apartments with pools. Your DH can immerse himself in the history and the occupation museums etc.

holidayconfused · 14/04/2024 11:45

Thank you all!

we have decided on a holiday park in Devon for the sea and prettiness and a weekend in Centre parcs for the slides 🛝 We are excited!
