Coldsore guilt, feel awful

I've suffered with coldsores since I was a child. I have two children and two weeks ago my youngest appeared to come out with one. It went but now she has another and one on the end of her nose. I feel absolutely terrible. I kissed her once forgetting I had one and the same when I held her toothbrush in my mouth for a sec picking her up.

I feel so awful that I've saddled her with this and they look so sore. :-(

Try not to be too hard on yourself. I have always suffered with cold sores, so have my mum & brother. My son seems to get them occasionally (13) but they are small & don't last long unlike mine which explode & last about 2 weeks. It's just one of those things.

Her little face. I feel so awful that she's now stuck with this because of me.

No @TheTwirlyPoos the virus is very common and she could have easily already had it or have caught it in future from someone else.

Half the population has this virus. It's hard being a parent, there's no point beating yourself up about it. If they become problematic she can have antiretroviral treatment to help. Don't worry, worse things happen honestly xx

It's bad. I though I did this to my daughter too but it turned out to be a spot. You have to be so careful with cold sores, I don't think nurses/ health visitors emphasise this enough. It's a horrible disease that is lifelong and is life threatening to newborns.

It's fine and more a matter of time than anything else if you have them in the family, they are contagious 2 days before the sore even appears. She could just as easily catch it from sharing drinks when older. DD got her first and worst one on her chin at about the same age then didn't have one again for years. She gets them occasionally on her lip now as a teen but we just keep a good supply of zovirax at home.

Try not to beat yourself up. Cold sores are very common and lots of kids get them.
I also found this (on a medical website):

In Britain, about seven in ten people have caught one of the viruses that cause them. However, most people don’t know, as only one in three who catches the virus will notice any symptoms.

Actually for most people it's pretty mild. And lots don't even get symptoms (see my previous post)
