Help retrain in NI - make up/beauty/holistic therapy, need direction please

I am SAHM in late 40’s, am professionally qualified but not worked in my area for 15 years and don’t want to go back to retraining in it.
I am socially isolated, have very few contacts with people or family and my partner works abroad. My children are heading towards secondary school. I am in Northern Ireland.
I feel so washed up, I just spend my days thinking I could do something, have a part time job for myself, earn my own money and meet people, have a pride in my accomplishments and a purpose to my days. So I want to go for it.
I would love to work in the beauty/holistic industry, it’s something I’ve always loved. I just want to do something simple, not take over the world, just a part time self employed work so I can work around the children.

I have the means to pay for courses.
There are so many things I live and I just want to get started in Something.
But I am so lost 🤷‍♀️ I go on internet, I don’t know where to go to get qualified or what I need to do to get started.
There are do many courses, people offering training but I’m afraid I’ll end up not able to actually do the work.
I paid 1k foolishly a year ago to train in doing permanent lash extension and brow lamination & lash lift.

The whole thing was done in two short days and I got qualified but have never felt confident in doing anyone, even practicing.
Foolishly I couldn’t see great to do the eyelash extensions and got magnifier glasses, the others were fine but I didn’t feel confident after just a couple hours.
It fed into the failure thing I’m trying to fight against!! I should’ve thought about it more rather than jumping in and it not working out - it’s a costly learning experience!!
I love reflexology but some courses are nearly 5k yet some a lot less, are the cheaper ones any good 🤷‍♀️
I don’t know where to turn for actual advice and can’t afford to loose any more money.

I love beauty, like makeup for older ladies, massage, facials, healing,
I see courses about makeup but can’t find information about the costs involved in setting up as a makeup artist after doing a training course.
I have a real interest in up to date facials but I don’t know how you ‘get into’ that sort of business or where/how to train.
I feel I could do so much if I could find a direction, I’m nearly 50 but I don’t want to look bsvk in 5 years and say I wish I’d done ….
Any one please help/thoughts/

Ohh that’s a difficult one, NI is packed with beauty salons, hairdressers, freelancers, nail techs, loads of alternative therapieS it’s not an easy business to get into.

I am looking for an accountant if you fancy that?? I honestly wouldn’t pay to do any more courses, especially if your eyesight isn’t great as that could potentially cause issues with nails etc too.

what about a PT job on a beauty counter until you build up your skills??

Yes NI has lots and they all seem to be booked up and busy!
Makes me think there’s room for another.
My eyesight is fine, just not up the detail of eyelash extensions and nails wouldn’t be my thing.
I’m not an accountant sadly or I’d take you up that!!
I am not near a city for beauty counters.
Can’t figure where does everyone train who don’t go into the industry after school 🤷‍♀️
Has anyone retained in this area who can advise please

Try the regional colleges-lots of hair and beauty courses and reflexology. What area in NI are you?

hairyhorror · 11/04/2024 00:44

Thanks for reply.
I’ll look but thought colleges more for younger ones training to work in a salon full time - I’d expected to train more privately somewhere.
It’s unbelievably confusing and I’m pretty sussed at looking into things.
Seems to be massive money and a lengthy training or significant money and rubber stamp exercise. I want to get qualified but feel competent in seeing clients.
Am rural Tyrone
