Making money on the side - any ideas?

I work full time but I'm in debt.

I need to make some extra money on the side to pull myself out of the debt. It needs to be stuff I can do from home.

I spent some time looking at side hustles recommended online but there are so many scams and places that pay ridiculous prices. I mean, I don't mind doing stuff for not a lot of money as it'll all add up if I keep doing it, but one site is offering 50p for surveys that take 20 minutes. I'm sure I can do better than £1.50 an hour!!

So, so far I've resolved to learn how matched betting works as that seems a no brainer if you put the time into learning it. (This isn't gambling for those unfamiliar with it).

And I've signed up with a bunch of focus group sites. They pay decent money but it's very sporadic.

And I applied to be a user tester.

Can anyone recommend any ways to make some money on the side?

There are good AI transcribing apps/platforms now. I pay to use one of them, a human wouldn't be able to compete

It's humans that programme the AI transcriptions.
That's what the Appen tasks upthread do. Prepare the AI platform so it can work properly.

I'm on the tenner a Day threads under various names.
Despite being a court transcriber as an official side hustle, I've never passed any of the annotation tests on the non official ones!
Prolific is good, bit hit and miss, you can go for weeks with nothing and then earn about£30 in a day. They weren't accepting applications a month or so back (DD applied) but might be now.

I've earned some fairly good bits and bobs on Appen. (last one was a language comparison for AI which was quite interesting, had to listen to utterances in 2 languages and mark them on similarities) I got £58 for a couple of hours of that.

How does one get a side hustle as a court transcriber?!

Do you mean like the focus group websites? I didn't think you could get enough work from them to do 2 hours a night? Maybe you mean something else?

FWIW, focus groups I'm already signed up for include:

  • Focus Force
  • Focus4People
  • Inspired Opinions
  • Take part in research

Yes I'm also interested to know what you mean by market research companies where you can work from home please 😊

Matched betting - approx an easy £1k - £1.5k to be made.

Switching a dummy bank account - another £700 - £1000 to be made.

How do you use a dummy bank account? I don't want to switch my main one

Set up a bank account with a couple of not-very-important direct debits and a bit of cash, e.g. £50-100. I use a few charity DDs. Monza or Starling are easy to set up accounts.

Then use that one to switch. Be careful of the rules for the switch - you may need to pay some money into the new account (then withdraw it again back to your main account or just spend it from the new account). Wait to be paid the reward for switching.

Then do it again to a different bank.

I made around 6k doing matched betting and easy casino offers over about 3 years, very part time too (maybe an hour a day, and none at all during most of school hols). I really enjoyed it. I'd recommend signing up to a site which helps with all the 'how to' and gives you a place to record your offers done, money in etc - i used Outplayed and found them excellent. There are good support groups on FB too.

Not focus groups but proper Market Research, IPSOS, Kantar are the bigger companies but there are loads of smaller ones. Been out of it for a while but a 2 second search on indeed brought this one up, just search for market research jobs, don't put a location in xx

Thank you that's very useful
