DS6 wants to hear orchestral music/Star Wars

DS6 is completely obsessed with Star Wars and he absolutely loves the orchestral scores of the films as well.

DH and I thought that we should take him to hear a performance of the orchestral score of John Williams' Star Wars.

Can anyone recommend ways to encourage young children to become interested in orchestral music generally?

I know that the LSO/Barbican organises "Family Concerts". Are there any other similar such concerts/events?

I would love it if DS6 could hear some orchestral concerts in order to determine what instrument he would first like to learn (aside from the Piano).

Lots of family concert series, it's how I got into classical music and how my dc did too. From 5 as long as they can sit still, it's fine to go to adult concerts with them too. Each year there's usually a family prom too

6 is an excellent age to start taking children, they haven't been prejudiced against it. My dc went to their first opera at 5&7 no issues at all (highly recommend the Arena di Verona, was half price for kids.)

Perhaps I wasn’t clear, @mitogoshi! I only meant that the BCMG workshops are for 7 year olds and up.

I’ve spent some of the happiest times of my life taking 4 and 5 year olds to operas …Grin No danger of being prejudiced against serious music or theatre in this house!

He might also enjoy Fantasia, the Disney movie.
