Adverts

Obvious trans text planted in dramas like Vera.

That awful shouty advert for Safe Style Windows - guaranteed to make me buy windows anywhere except SSW.

Sports commentators who scream.

Cooking programs in which every recipe involves 28 ingredients or a kilo of sugar - too convoluted or unhealthy to bother with.

Trump, Putin and all the rest of the world's egomaniacs.

Blackcats7 · 09/04/2024 08:05

Unnecessary sex scenes or slurpy kissing, forced “diversity” as someone else has already said, trans propaganda, anything where an animal is involved as they always dub on sounds like neighing, barking etc plus the story line often seems to involve the animal being treated crapily, being lost or killed. And I pay to watch without adverts as can’t stand them.

Carol Vorderman

Jins · 09/04/2024 08:29

David Attenborough. I have a completely irrational hatred of this national treasure.
Game shows
Reality shows
War documentaries especially in relation to planes or tanks.
Most sit-coms

Helabel1 · 09/04/2024 09:30

Graphic sex scenes, anything where the women are portrayed as sex mad loons and always got their bits out while the men remained resolutely fully clothed.

CurlewKate · 09/04/2024 09:45

@NotAllowed "All of it. I only catch what’s on TV at my mums house and cannot believe people voluntarily sit and watch it."

You are Mumsnet Patient Zero and I claim my £5.

Dinnerlady12 · 09/04/2024 09:49

People eating. I wish programmes like Big Brother and Love Island would turn their mics down when they are eating. I have to mute or fast forward any scenes in Corrie when Gemma is eating. The Magnum advert makes me want to cry. I have raging misophonia but strangely the Pot Noodle advert doesn't bother me at all

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 09/04/2024 09:51

Sport
Violence
Detective series.
Quiz shows
Reality tv.

That doesn’t leave much

David Attenborough. I have a completely irrational hatred of this national treasure.

"I've had the privilege of travelling all around the world and seeing the most amazing things for decades... but YOU mustn't go anywhere anymore, because of climate change".

It makes me think of Prince Philip and James Lovelock, preaching earnestly about the dangers of over-population and how we must all act drastically and make stark sacrifices in order to keep the planet from falling off a population precipice... except for them of course, who were both fathers of four children.

I've only got one child, so it doesn't affect me personally; and I have no problem at all with people who choose to have a big family - except for the ones who do so but then tell everybody else that they mustn't.

MaybeRevisitYourWipingT3chnique · 09/04/2024 10:05

I agree about programmes where they just throw in random swearing, sex scenes or violence for no reason. Richard Curtis is the absolute master of the first two of these.

Fair enough if it's a gritty film/drama that's clearly aimed at an adult audience; but I never understand why you would make something that's 98% suitable for family audiences, but then deliberately include something that doesn't really 'fit' or add anything to the storyline, but which only serves to reduce the appeal and suitability for a vast swathe of younger people who otherwise would have really enjoyed it.

It's like the equivalent of randomly adding gin into the standard recipe of Coca Cola, for no other reason than making it so that millions of children can't enjoy it anymore - when there are already so many alcoholic drinks available for adults, and nobody is stopping grown-ups from adding booze to Coke/lemonade/any soft drink if they so desire.

OnlyYellowRoses · 09/04/2024 10:15

Alison Hammond
Ant and Dec
Stephen Mulhern
Bradley Walsh

All really cheesy and make my skin itch.

I hate it when DH has the football on too, not because of the game itself but every few minutes, one of the players seems to have to spit on the pitch and it's grim.

Robinbuildsbears · 09/04/2024 10:18

When people are too close to the microphone when recording. I seem to have the opposite of ASMR, it makes me want to rip my own ears off. This is usually on adverts but not always.

Oneblindmouse · 09/04/2024 10:23

Extreme violence. I changed channel when watching "This Town" 2nd episode due to horrific violence. And I won't be watching further episodes.
Just sickening.

BobnLen · 09/04/2024 10:26

Sport and game shows

CwmYoy · 09/04/2024 10:34

Sky reporter unable to say th correctly.
Reporting on the wevver yesterday and sounding like a child.

Rosie Jones - she's not funny. And was horrible about Greta. Excellent actor but otherwise just annoying.

RomCom

Sport

Alison Hammond
Ant and Dec
Amanda Holden

Forced, unrepresentative diversity in drama or adverts.

What do you mean by forced unrepresentative diversity?

Do you mean like too many ethnic minorities/women/visibly disabled on TV?

Coastalcreeksider · 09/04/2024 10:40

Stacey Dooley
Shouty Gregg Wallace
Most adverts, although I like the Pets at Home one, so leave that on
Channel 5 dramas, never seen one through to the end and one episode of Cuckoo means that will continue.

LimpImpala · 09/04/2024 10:56

Celebrities having a paid for jolly or doing challenges for charity. Although I did enjoy the last celebrity series of race across the world.

Piers Morgan

Magazine Programmes which are annoyingly always on at the gym.

Master Chef

mondaytosunday · 09/04/2024 11:02

I don't watch regular tv - I find a program I want to watch and stream it. Other than perhaps the news or some sort of live event.
I'd turn off reality/talent shows (like Big Brother or Got Talent - though I'm quite partial to The Kardashian's type show), boring sports (golf, darts, snooker).

shiningstar2 · 09/04/2024 11:04

Violence ....every time! It is so excessive. Nothing left to the imagination. I don't find it entertaining to watch agonising scenes of torture ext. It can be part of the storyline without it being presented in all the horror of a real life situation. On our screens at all hours. Makes the excessive nature of terrible crimes appear 'normal'. So much actual violence/knife crime around. Does make me wonder what overly realistic portrayals in fictional drama does to young minds. 🤔

CurlewKate · 09/04/2024 11:08

@GKD "What do you mean by forced unrepresentative diversity?

Oh, you know. Black people doing middle class things. Women being the detective inspector, not the constable. Someone being in a wheelchair-and it not being mentioned because it's not a plot point. That sort of thing! 😉

Yes to this. Also the endless crime dramas and documentaries about serial killers etc. Just had enough:

No the tick box manner in which it’s done . It’s so clearly done on a percentage basis. It doesn’t ring true and is just irritating.

LawrieForShepherdsBoy · 09/04/2024 11:13

The buffer circle on Channel 4 on demand. And the long pauses while it decides what ads to show me.

Members of government talking.

lovepotionnumbernine · 09/04/2024 11:20

Sloppy slurpy kiss/sex scenes. I was watching the bill yesterday at lunch and two of them started kissing. The camera zoomed in and I could see and hear their tongues. Gross and unnecessary. If I want to watch porn I'll find it. It's stopped me watching Mary and George and I love a bit of historical drama.
