Anti social behaviour - would you have called the police?

I was walking the dog in a local park early this evening. The park adjoins a football field with a footpath that runs between the two - so basically one big huge rectangle and in the middle there's a children's unfenced play area with children in it and a few groups of people dotted around sitting on the grass and walking along the footpaths.

Some teenage/early 20s lads with an off road dirt motorbike (no numberplates and no helmets) were taking turns riding at top speed around the entire park and field, basically using it as a circuit, jumping the bike over the little grassy bank that separate the path from the field, dodging around the groups of people on the grass, riding across the footpath and doing wheelies. For at least 20 minutes.

I thought about calling 101 but i thought there wouldn't be much they would do. Would you have called? Normally i live and let live but this seemed really dangerous.

My son is deaf. That would have terrified him. I would def have reported!

MsFaversham · 08/04/2024 20:54

If there were children around then yes.

There were children around in the play area.

Yes report to police. They almost certainly got there using public roads and possibly pavements.

fussychica · 09/04/2024 08:59

Absolutely. This is totally unacceptable behaviour in a public park.

Craftier · 09/04/2024 12:14

Ok good if i see them there again I'll call 101.

You could try reporting them. I tried to when this happened in my local park. After over half an hour waiting on the phone for someone at 101 to answer, I gave up.

DoubleOuch · 09/04/2024 12:36

My experience of 101 is that you end up (eventually) speaking with someone who doesn't know the local area, and who takes so long to go through irrelevent details, that whatever problem you want them to attend is long past. They actually suggest that they might try and send someone next day! I've tried to use it twice - for very similar circumstances to the OP - and frankly its been completely pointless.

We need police in communities, yes, back walking beats, and they need to be contactable by locals at any time. Dream on.
