Snoring.. I can't take anymore

I feel like the house is shaking!! No spare room so I'm now on the sofa having a coffee debating starting work very early. DH is overweight-drinks too much and I suspect has sleep apnea 🥴 I've tried to tell him a few times but it's falling on deaf ears. Anyone awake to offer sympathy.. I'm going out of my mind with this noise. Fortunately he's away a lot so I do get some sleep!!

He should sleep on the sofa if he is unwilling to do anything about the snoring …

shutthefd · 08/04/2024 04:13

Ha! If only I could wake him.. I'm in the lounge, the noise is still loud down here and he's in the back bedroom 😬 it's so bad!! If I can get to sleep first I seem to be able to block it out! I'm going to have a serious discussion with him in the morning..

Do you sleep in ear plugs? I have the wax ones that mold into your ear and completely block out noise

My DH has sleep apnea. Won't see anyone about it because he has medical trauma from years of illness as a child. He's thin so losing weight won't happen. He also had nasal surgery twice in his teens and late 20s (before we met) so he says.
Drives me mad. It's worse because it's not every night so I never know when it's good to be a problem.
I'm wide awake right now becUse he woke me up coming to bed late at 1.30 and I just haven't been able to get back. And now he's snoring.

BananaLambo · 08/04/2024 04:27

Second earplugs and putting a signed/day bed in the lounge for when it gets too bad.

Inyourwildestdreams · 08/04/2024 04:32

No solutions but I feel your pain @shutthefd 😴 DH works offshore so I have 3 weeks of him being away and me having multiple night wakings with our toddler but being able to sleep between. Then I have 3 weeks where he’s home and I’m absolutely exhausted because I have the snoring to contend with too 😴

Although, to my DHs credit, he has been to the doctor multiple times and is waiting on more referrals as they can’t find the cause of his snoring 😩 not overweight, drinks once in a blue moon, no sleep apnoea.

I can’t wear earplugs (past trauma plus DH sleeps so heavily when he snores that he can’t hear our child even if he’s screaming!) and we have no spare room so it’s difficult. My alarm goes at 5.30am for work and I’ve already been awake a couple of hours 😴

shutthefd · 08/04/2024 04:39

I've been looking on Amazon at ear plugs.. going to have to try some! I know he won't do anything about it annoyingly, he's usual excuse-I'm tired, been working too hard. I've encouraged him to cut down on wine, eat less and move more.. none of which have worked. He'll be gone now until the weekend so I can catch up on sleep at least!! Just dread him coming back these day, he must keep the whole hotel awake ffs 🤦‍♀️

@Inyourwildestdreams 😩 I hope you get some answers. It's the worst torture isn't it!

My DP snores like a train. I wear ear plugs, the silicone corkscrew type, I find the wax type uncomfortable and also a bit grimy.
The key is to insert them properly - watch a YouTube video. It's a gamechanger.

MinnieMountain · 08/04/2024 05:35

Perhaps if you insist he sleeps on the sofa in future he’ll do something about it?

SquashPenguin · 08/04/2024 06:23

Record him up close and over multiple nights, then play it to him. My ex snored so badly, no ear plugs would block it because it literally rattled the bed frame. He was so disgusted when I played the audio to him he finally went to the doctors.

My step dad had sleep apnoea. He eventually got a c pap machine and it’s changed his (and my mums) life!

Panic71 · 08/04/2024 06:33

Sleep apnea can cause weight to increase and then the snoring increases too due to the weight. It’s a vicious circle. My husband is the same and he wakes exhausted and grumpy and not sure why - but clearly it’s lack of quality sleep. It’s on our minds to get back to the gp who mentioned a sleep clinic. At the moment he’s on the sofa most nights.

Are the machines quite quiet at night?

shutthefd · 08/04/2024 07:38

I've done the recording thing in the past, he knows it's a big problem and wakes completely tired most days and blames the stresses of work for his lack of good sleep. 💤 I feel like we are going round in circles and he's avoiding the problem! I've had a couple of hours sleep on the sofa and he's gone off to work now. I'm just relieved it's not every night I'm dealing with this.

My husband sounds the same and for the same reasons - weight and drinking. We've slept separately for years now which is bliss, but holidays, if it's not self catering with enough bedrooms, are a big problem for me. I wear earplugs (hearos xtreme) and I also have a sleep headband that has soft flat headphones in it that I play white noise through. The earplugs and headband combined usually do the trick, but if you have DC obviously you need to be able to hear them in the night, so not sure what you can do in that case!?

Nevermindtheteacaps · 08/04/2024 07:53

I use a snooze band....

Mum2aTeen · 08/04/2024 07:54

I with you there my partner snores like a train most nights.

Thankfully when he remembers he puts these strips on his nose and they help besides when he sleeps on his back I just have to make him roll over.

If you haven't tried them maybe worth a shot.

Hope you get some sleep soon.

Snoring.. I can't take anymore
mammaCh · 08/04/2024 07:56

I feel your pain!

My husband has the same problem.
It is ridiculously loud!! If we ever have anyone staying they complain about it too!
Took him over 20 years and me saying I can't live with him anymore to finally go to the Dr.
The gave him a nasal steroid whilst waiting for more tests and omg the difference!

RampantIvy · 08/04/2024 07:57

@Panic71 yes. A CPAP machine is quiet. DH has one due to his sleep apnoea. The consultant said that DH's was the worst case he had ever seen with 50 non breathing episodes an hour.

They think it was the sleep apnoea that caused his silent stroke.

Those of you with partners who snore badly and/or have sleep apnoea please urge them to see their GP. Having sleep apnoea increases the risk of high blood pressure, stroke, heart attack and type 2 diabetes, not to mention that the lack of quality sleep makes it unsafe to drive.

MenoBabe · 08/04/2024 07:59

My DH getting diagnosed with sleep apnea and getting a CPAP allowed us to share a bed again after years of separate beds. It's there any way you can persuade him to the gp?

OutOfTheHouse · 08/04/2024 08:00

I am the snorer in our house. It drives DH insane. I don’t know what I can do about it though.

rainontherooftop · 08/04/2024 08:29

Silicon earplugs and a music headband over the top playing white noise (I got a musicozy one from Amazon for about £15)

It's the only way I can share a room with my DH on holiday (at home we sleep separately)

OutOfTheHouse · 08/04/2024 09:03

RampantIvy · 08/04/2024 08:11

Have you seen your GP?

No. You can’t get GP appointments for serious stuff around here let alone something non life threatening.

Panic71 · 08/04/2024 06:35

They sound like a sort of general white noise. None of that god awful rattle like snoring I’ve not heard it personally but my mum says it changed her life as well as her husbands, they can both sleep!
