So I use gradual tan
Always have as I don't like full on fake tan and im so pale.
I'm going on holiday in two weeks so have been going on the sunbed for 6 mins 3 x a week.
This is after 40 mins
I'm just as white
I use a lotion to protect my skin and also promote tanning but nothing
Is it pointless ?
I won't go on again after holiday
It's literally just so I have some sort of colour on my skin
Why am I not changing colour ?
I don't want to go on longer than 6 mins
Is this the issue ?

Is it worth me using a sunbed ?

Never

Blackcats7 · 07/04/2024 14:03

No. Sunbeds cause skin cancer and if you get the worst sort melanoma like me it can kill you.
I was never a sunbed user but this is advice from Melanoma UK.
Unless a tan is worth your life don’t do it.

I thought that your post was going to be re: psoriasis or acne - in which case I would’ve said yes, the benefits of a few short sunbed sessions outweighed the risks for me in terms of clearing my skin

I would never go to one just for a tan though. Not worth it at all when you can easily fake it. What about a spray tan? You can get lovely, natural, glowy ones these days

@goldenretrievermum5 they don't last as soon as I put suncream on or go in the pool it comes off and it leaves a patchy mess

Potentially fatal cancer vs temporary tan? Sure, seems reasonable.

Beezknees · 07/04/2024 14:21

No, for God's sake.

You need to learn to love your own skin. Nothing wrong with being pale. I'm white as a ghost and used to fake tan loads but I'm so glad I stopped and embraced myself the way I am.

Cathbrownlow · 07/04/2024 14:22

I echo the others, Never use a sun bed.

mynameiscalypso · 07/04/2024 14:22

I really would have thought they'd be banned by now (other than in medical settings)

TeenLifeMum · 07/04/2024 14:24

I thought sun beds were a thing of the early 2000s. I mean, sure, why not take up smoking at the same time to get the full cancer risk up there.

LaughterLentil · 07/04/2024 14:24

I always have a course of sunbeds before my holiday to get rid of the pale skin and give myself a base tan so I don't burn. Then when I go on holiday I sit in the shade all day, until 4pm, when I sit in the late afternoon sun

OrangeBlossom28 · 07/04/2024 14:39

DH has had a BCC removed from his forehead. The consultant said a lot of people he's now seeing with skin cancer are sunbed users. It's so unsafe to use them. A sun tan is damage from the sun.

KottuKottuKottu · 07/04/2024 14:51

Please dont its really not worth it, embrace your beautiful pale skin.

DancingFerret · 07/04/2024 14:52

The received medical wisdom is the use of sunbeds can be fatal. That's enough for me to avoid them like the plague.

SpanishTale · 07/04/2024 15:28

Get a spray tan before holidays. That's what I do.

Nicetobenice67 · 07/04/2024 15:30

Don’t do it anymore…after 2 days in the sun you will start to get a healthy glow anyway
