Do you believe psychics are real?

I visited one with my friend today. I’m really confused about the level of accuracy. I said nothing. Did nothing. Have no socials. Answered no questions.

Was it a ticketed event? If so, how were they bought?

Individual reading at their house.

No I don't. I think they are very good at fishing and reading people's reactions. I think we read into what they are saying and find our own relevance. Plenty will disagree with me but that's just my opinion. I don't think it really matters though, I have many friends who swear by tarot cards and I've taken part sometimes. I think they can be a very useful tool for considering your life from different angles and so helpful with problem solving and decision making. Maybe it doesn't matter if it's real if it's helpful or gives comfort?

So was anything they said accurate?
I don't believe in them, I think they are good at reading people, saying something vague that could be relevant to a lot of people, then get a reaction then roll with it.

TheCatastrophicJessicaAlves · 07/04/2024 13:25

nope scam artists

TheChosenTwo · 07/04/2024 13:26

Absolutely not. Charlatans who largely pray on the vulnerable.

IAmABogWitch · 07/04/2024 13:27

No.

Didn’t Derren Brown or someone show how this is actually done?

Cuppachuchu · 07/04/2024 13:27

Just. No.

Yes, he did. Worth seeking out if you’re ever tempted to believe in any of it. They are very clever, and ruthless in the exploitation of vulnerable people. Despicable.

CapitanSandy · 07/04/2024 13:31

I’m not sure. The rational part of me thinks it’s just a scam to exploit people when they’re feeling vulnerable for example when wanting to connect with a lost loved one.

But then how do they know certain things? A distant relative goes to a psychic regularly and things have been mentioned that would be hard to guess.

How are you feeling now?

Pantaloons99 · 07/04/2024 13:33

No not for one minute.

If these people are really psychic why aren't they providing full details. This, I see a name with N in it is nonsensical. Just give us the actual name.

genesis92 · 07/04/2024 13:34

Some are, most probably not

FlyingPizzaMonkey · 07/04/2024 13:36

No of course.

Derren Brown quite literally tells you how it’s done.

He did. He can give you a "psychic reading" that will take the sight out of your eyes. The only difference is that he can then explain the cold-reading techniques he uses. You can do an incredible "reading" using only cold reading. It's even easier if you have a "hot read" and know a bit in advance.

Several "psychics" attempted the James Randi challenge to demonstrate their skills in controlled conditions, which, if they'd been able to do it, they would have walked away with $1million. They all failed. Several more famous ones claimed they would absolutely take the challenge and then just... Failed to follow through. Funny, that. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Million_Dollar_Paranormal_Challenge

Do you believe psychics are real?
PlasticOno · 07/04/2024 13:43

Of course not. It’s really not difficult to ‘read’ people for any reasonably observant person, and people who’ve been ‘read’ almost always inflate ‘hits’ and minimise ‘misses’, even with no conscious intention to.

TheMixedGirl · 07/04/2024 14:40

Yes. But there are also lots of charlatans out there. Who did u see?

ScreamingINmyHead · 07/04/2024 14:41

No. They are chancers who prey on bereaved people

No, I don't believe they are real.

Just people that are good at reading body language or making good but general guesses at why people might be seeking a psychic reading.
