Very different pregnancies - sickness

Help me!! I know every pregnancy is different but I had such an easy first pregnancy I just expected this one to be the same, but I've been feeling queasy, nauseous, light headed, bloody everything since about 6 weeks and it's showing no sign of ending 😩😩😩 I'm just over 12 weeks.

Has anybody else had very different experiences each time? Do the old wives tales about boy and girl pregnancies have any merit?

Yes. I flew through pregnancy with my boy, loved it, so energetic, glowing the whole heep. It was 9 years ago tho

With my newborn girl I was so so sick from day 1, everything hurt, extreme fatigue, I was the opposite of glowing. Horrible pregnancy!

EcoCustard · 06/04/2024 21:24

I had HG in my first pregnancy, hospitalised twice and it finally subsided around 20weeks, boy. My 3 pregnancies after Dc1 were HG free, mild sickness early on. They were girls & boys. All very different also had GD with 3 out of 4 pregnancies, felt like a bloated whale with Dc3, very big bump and uncomfortable, she was the smallest of the 4 too.

Insanely sick with DS. Vastly different pregnancy with twin girls the next time, not nearly as ill and all different symptoms. This pregnancy back to insanely sick, thought for sure another DS but it’s a girl. So I don’t think they correlate.

I felt ok with my pregnancy that ended in loss, and equally rubbish in my successful pregnancies which was 1 of each sex!

starlingsinging · 06/04/2024 21:34

Yes this is my 4th and I'm 14 weeks, I feel sick every time I eat anything and I'm feeling ever so tired.
I have had 3 previously easy pregnancies and never experienced any nausea.
I'm also prone to coughs and colds this time and keep getting one after the other.
Hopefully it subsides for you soon.

Just here in solidarity OP. I also had a very easy straightforward pregnancy with my daughter. Felt a bit icky in the first trimester but life went on without issue. This time around I was hospitalised twice in the first trimester and diagnosed with HG. I'm now almost 20 weeks and whilst the sickness has settled down, still feel nauseous, am ridiculously bloated and fatigued. It's grim (although i am inexplicably still delighted to be pregnant!). I'm 20 weeks. Cant comment on difference due to baby sex as I've not found out this time. Congratulations on the pregnancy!

dancingqueen345 · 06/04/2024 21:37

@Kirstylvsya yes I totally had that 'glow' first time round, I felt absolutely fabulous. Age (for me) may well be a factor, plus having a toddler to look after. Wish I hadn't been so smug first time around 😂

@EcoCustard I know what I'm experiencing is absolutely nothing close to HG and I'm complaining all the time so you have my sympathy!

First pregnancy I was sick ever single day for the whole pregnancy. Second pregnancy wasn't sick once.... both girls.

They also both had very different shaped heads on the 12 week scan, I was so sure DD2 was going to be a boy :P

dancingqueen345 · 06/04/2024 21:41

@Rosesanddaisies1 sorry for your loss.

My first was a boy so have convinced myself been this one is a girl but I perhaps won't clear out all my little boy bits yet 🤣

@starlingsinging and for you! Plus going through it with another 3 to look after - superwoman!

Thanks @WithOneLook - sorry you're having such a hard time!

First 2 were boys. Incredibly sick and lost heaps of weight in first trimester

last was a girl. Even worse. Admitted to hospital for several days to get under control.

I do wonder if it was looking after other DCs that made the last pregnancy worse - rather than it being gender related.

bluebird3 · 06/04/2024 21:47

Wonderful first pregnancy, mild nausea until 12 weeks. Horrible secrets Nd pregnancy with nausea until 25 weeks. Both girls! I definitely think age was a factor and that I couldn't rest with a toddler to look after.

Stopmotion24 · 06/04/2024 21:49

I had 2 very different pregnancies, assumed different sex but it was the same sex, just very different children! With one I was constantly hungry and they eat a lot, the other one doesn’t. They are very different children in many other ways.

sarahc336 · 06/04/2024 21:54

Not for me, two polar opposite pregnancies but two girls for me, they are polar opposites in personality though so 🤷🏻‍♀️

jennyt82 · 06/04/2024 21:57

I had 3 identical pregnancies, all boys. My 4th was completely different in every way, another boy!

Pixiesgirl · 06/04/2024 22:01

I was sick as a dog with my first, plus headaches from hell (dd), no sickness with next two (ds's). Spd with Ds1, but that was probably due to working 12 hour shifts.

DinaofCloud9 · 06/04/2024 22:15

I had an awful second pregnancy but great first. Both the same sex.

dancingqueen345 · 06/04/2024 22:20

Thanks for the input everyone!

I'm sure no one cares but if I remember I will pop back on when we find out the gender 🤣

2 identical pregnancies, one child of either sex. There's no suggestion of the baby's sex you can glean from levels of sickness.
