Hall shoe storage

How does everyone cope with the mounds of shoes that build up in the hall? especially those with a couple of teen boys with massive feet.

Its easy to say make everyone keep their shoes in their bedrooms but in reality it doesn't happen. I was looking at those shoe cabinets but am wondering realistically what size shoes you can get in them?

You're right to consider that, as most cabinets etc only seem to fit average size shoes. So larger sizes like 11, 12 onwards might not fit in.

We've got the open racks, one of the shelved sort and one which is a carousel with the shoes hung on hooks. Neither are particularly attractive, it's the compromise we've had to make for shoes being tidy but quick to access.

We've also got a wooden trunk with a flat lid which we put unseasonal things in, like woolly hats in summer. It's better because you can't see the clutter inside but stuff gets dumped on top. Maybe keeping just a few pairs of shoes in the hall and the less-used remainder in your own room is possibly the way to go..?

We have a shoe shelf. Everyone except for me leaves their shoes in the middle of the hall floor until 'reminded' that shoes go on the shoe shelf.

If you work out how to get family members to keep their shoes tidy, tell me.

We had the same problem, our hallway was always full of random shoes everywhere! What really helped was getting a little storage bench with space underneath for shoes. It keeps everything out of sight and gives you somewhere to sit when putting them on.

If your hallway’s narrow, it’s worth measuring first so it doesn’t block the door. I also lined the inside with a mat to stop dirt getting everywhere.

If you’re looking for ideas, this site has some nice hallway benches in different sizes and styles: https://storagebench.co.uk/collections/hallway-storage-bench

We do keep all our shoes in our bedroom apart from school/work shoes and they go in a box behind our kitchen door so tidied away. In the holidays the dc’s trainers end up in the box too just because they are wearing them everyday but otherwise all other shoes are kept in rooms.

We're a no shoe house and it drives me mad if left in the porch.
We are building a unit, half slatted shelves for shoes with a water absorbing mat at the bottom, the other half umbrella etc ( that can be switched out) and then the upper part for coats with a shelf for hats.
Built in and a feature

I have 2 of these, each person has their own shelf (I have multiple 😂)

Big bulky walking pots and wellies in a shoe trunk in the utility room, out of season sandals in the wardrobe. Current shoes go into an IKEA tippy drawer shoe chest in the hallway.

Boots not pots!

We have a shelving unit from B&M. Each person has their own shelf (takes 3 pairs each) and any excess shoes goes in your room. Wellies go in the pantry near the back door.

We have shoe cubbies, like little pigeonholes. The most "coverage" I can give the shoes without introducing a lid or other barrier to them being used.

The IKEA cabinets are pretty good and seems to work for a lot of people. I just couldn't get my children to actually use them.

Everyone's limited to 3 pairs. I would rather it was 2. Anything else goes upstairs.
