Does anyone have a written weekly cleaning schedule?

I have ADHD and really struggle keeping on top of things.

I implemented a written weekly schedule for washing clothes and it's really, really helped me keep on top of things so I'm looking to expand.

But not sure how to make on, what to put on and when.

I know there's apps also but I ignore apps. If it's printed in my kitchen/laundry room I take more notice.

Probably won't work as you've said you don't like apps, but I have a list on Alexa. I tick things off over the week and then untick them all again on a Monday. Makes sure I hit everything over the week

Why not do a week of cleaning g and write down what you did as to go. Everyone has such different homes and standards that I think one actually for your own needs would be one that you'd be most likely to stick to

I've used The Organised Mum Method before - she has an app and a Facebook community which is great, but she also does free printables of a cleaning schedule and keeps it really simple, 15-30 min cleans every day and the more you do it and keep on top of it the less overwhelming it gets!

I tried the app everyone recommends here but while it was great for ideas to put on the list, you mark what you want to do daily, weekly, fortnightly yourself so I think I’m in the same place as you op!!

I don’t have a written list, but I do have a rather inflexible routine where I feel A must be done on days X & Y and B must be done on day Z etc.

Cause if it's not written down I don't do it.

Everytime stuff needs doing I grab an old envelope or something and write down what I need to do.

But in general my house is a mess because I don't ever know where to start.

I can see why you do it to assist you but no I spend my life trying to do the bare minimum whilst having a very orderly and tidy home.

The key is I just don’t buy stuff at all, minimal tat is the key, also chucking out stuff.

Declutter
Everything has a place / home.
Put away / not down.

Day off:
~ dust/clean
~vacuum
~mop
~laundry

I don't write it down but I have cleaning days.

So one day in the week when I'm off work I'll clean the downstairs and the bathroom (the bathroom doesn't always fully need doing)

And then I spend an afternoon at the weekend when everyone else is out cleaning downstairs and the bathroom again.

Upstairs bedrooms get done once every 2-3 weeks.

Mine isn't written down but I do have a list in my head of what needs doing on what day.

But you could definitely write down a list and stick it on the wall if you think it would help you!

I have one on my fridge (next to the calendar/planner). It's a week, day-by-day, with a list under each day, and a bit at the top that has every day jobs.

I split mine so Monday is living room, Tuesday is bedrooms etc. So Monday has:

  • Daily jobs

Living Room:

  • Put things away
  • Dust shelves & TV unit
  • Tidy desk
  • Hoover
  • Empty waste paper bin

Then, on the calendar, I have a list of things that only need doing every so often. For April, it has a washing machine cleaner and cleaning all the door frames.

I made mine a few years ago, and now it's saved on the computer so I just print it out each week. I find it really useful, because each job ticked off feels like a win, and having it broken down into small steps helps stop me getting overwhelmed.

Buy a diary specifically for cleaning. So, let’s say for example, you hoover every 2 days. So you hoover on the Monday, then write “hoover” in on the following Wednesday. If you do a major job that maybe only needs doing every couple of months. You can then schedule it in for 2 months later. You can also put in daily jobs. After you’ve been doing it a while, you can just open your diary each morning and see what your tasks are for the day. Then tick them off as you do them. If you have a busy day, say you need to be out for the day. You can just move some to the day before or after. That kind of thing.

I have ADHD and this method really helped me.

I'm really sure on the printed schedule on multiple walls. I just was hoping that someone knew of a way to do it.

I do have a list, written on a magnetic whiteboard that is on my kitchen wall along with my meal plan for the week.

Mine is:

Monday - change and wash bedding, towels and bath mats
Tuesday - hoover whole house and mop floors
Wednesday - clean kitchen
Thursday - empty bins
Friday - dust everywhere
Saturday - clean bathrooms (a quicker job as I've mopped the bathroom floors on Tuesday)
Sunday - laundry

Then I have some monthly recurring things on my calendar on my phone like run a cleaner through the dishwasher and washing machines, weed the garden, clean out the microwave, mow the lawn etc.

Physical and tiring.
No one wants' to do it.
Just write list.
Stick on some music....and do it.
There's no magical method.
(Let me if you find one)

Monday - Stairs
Tuesday - Bathroom and laundry
Wednesday - Lounge
Thursday - Kitchen and laundry
Friday - Bedrooms
Saturday - outdoor stuff (garden, car) and laundry
Sunday - free time

I mix it up as this helps my spicy brain not get bored.

Dana K White has two books, Decluttering at the Speed of Life (start with the rubbish) and How to Manage Your Home without Losing Your Mind (start with doing the dishes). She also has a blog/podcast/youtube channel etc. Her method works really well for neurodivergent people.

Also for body doubling I use The Organised Mum Method's Rock The Housework subscription. Having Gemma in your ear telling you what to do really helps. I mostly use the multiroom ones and do the whole house or upstairs or downstairs when I'm looking for a project. I don't follow her timetable as that doesn't work for how my brain works.

I use to use the Team TOMM app but as you say they're easily ignored. Iv started this week making a list of things I want to to get done each day to include things for myself like tanning or doing my nails and exercising. Ticking the things off as I go along makes me feel good, like I'm getting somewhere and keeps me motivated. It also means I'm not forgetting anything because it's there on the list. Iv also made sure the list isn't long or overwhelming.

I would start with a few things that you need to do every day - maybe wiping the kitchen counters, airing the house and giving the loo a quick swish.

And then decide whether you'd rather divide the jobs by type (vacuum Mondays, dust Tuesdays etc) or by room (kitchen Mondays, bedrooms Tuesdays).

You could have a look at the Organized Mum Method printables too.

It's laminated, so I use a white board pen to tick it off as I go. Just wiped it clean to start again tomorrow
