Single parent anxiety holiday

Im taking my DS (just me) on a short break abroad later in the year. I was excited when booking, however now I feel a level of worry I've never had before. What if anything happens and I'm the only adult, or I take ill.

I'm peri age which might explain my irrational stress, but any tips helpful...

Sounds lovely, where are you going?

You’ll be absolutely fine, I promise. I’m a single parent & have taken my DC on lots of holidays, city breaks etc in the UK and abroad and we’ve never had any issues at all.

I’ve felt nervous sometimes before we travelled but once we’ve arrived we’ve all been able to relax & enjoy a lovely holiday.

On the one occasion my DD had a nasty flare up of a pre-existing condition the staff in the hotel we were staying in were super helpful.

My top travel tip to anyone is to pack Uno in your hand luggage! It’s got us through lots of flight delays & my DC, who are both teens now, still ask to play when we’re out in the evening on holiday!

That's reassuring, thank you. We've usually gone with friends so I just feel this pressure being the only responsible adult. I know many are in my situation which helps.
Majorca, family type hotel, shortish flights etc.

I take my DC away regularly solo and we are away in two weeks.
Remember to pack a little medical kit such as paracetamol, Puriton, plasters, surgical spirit, bite and itch cream.
If you don't have a transfer booked from the airport then book a car to collect you so you don't have to worry about a taxi and they'll be waiting as you exit the airport.
Occasionally I've stayed at an airport hotel to make the hotel arrival easier. I also sometimes use Jet2 so I can drop off luggage beforehand and be a bit more hands free.
I've packed all our luggage into one main case and DC can bring little backpack/ cases with their toys on the plane. Snacks and water in my hand luggage.
You'll be ok for a two hour flight and hopefully your return journey will go smoothly.

Ah you’ll have a fab time.

As PP has said - a small first aid/essentials kit will be super handy and will get you through most common issues.

I’ve also tended to pack a few bits for playing at the pool - a mesh bag with zogg balls, diving weights, goggles etc to occupy DC & give me 20 minutes peace! Also a great way for them to make new friends.

I took these last year too, which meant we didn’t have to spend precious ££ and time searching for inflatables in resort

How old is your little one? I understand the worry, but you'll have a great time and make great memories

DS is 10, I've fond memories of going on holiday with just my DM but I was younger but I had zero awareness of any risks at that age.
Will see if the hotel has a fb page as often people put messages on saying they're coming and for kids to meet up. Yes good idea about first aid supplies, will top them up.

Check your insurance policy because a lot have single parent options which cover you for a bit more.
I know it is hard to quiet down the worry but what you are planning is great for both of you.
