Help! Used hair dryer on carpet!

I don't know what I was thinking, but came across the suggestion of using a hair dryer to dry carpet...so for some odd reason I went ahead and used it (the whole room 😩). It felt absolutely fine (albeit one spot), but I've noticed the carpet doesn't feel right. Walking with socks and you can feel the fibres sticking to socks (I'm guessing they've hardened). Is there anything I can do to soften it a little again? Would using a vax carpet washer help?
I really hope there is some way to save it, its new carpet 😭

We need to know how the carpet got wet.

WhatFlavourIsIt · 05/04/2024 23:16

What was spilt on the carpet?. It's more likely it wasn't cleaned up properly than damaged from the hairdryer. Clean it with a spot cleaner & leave to dry

WarshipRocinante · 05/04/2024 23:23

How close were you holding it to the carpet? Warm air blown over is fine but if you had the right up against the carpet and went round slowly then you could have melted parts if your carpet is very plastic fibre heavy.

I think you've melted that bit of carpet where the hairdryer got too close. Is it a wool carpet or synthetic?

disasterStrikes · 05/04/2024 23:43

I think I might have been too close to the carpet when using the hair dryer.

I used a carpet cleaner but left the carpet far too wet, and worried it would start to smell damp so tried to speed up the drying process 😑

More likely you used too much washing solution and that's left it sticky.

Try going over it with just water tomorrow and see how much suds come out.

Thank you for the replies. Hoping a clean with water will makes things better 🫤

Curious as to why you're washing a new carpet

WarshipRocinante · 06/04/2024 00:18

If you really wanted to wash the carpet then you need to go get a carpet cleaner. You can usually hire a rug doctor from a supermarket.

ChateauMargaux · 06/04/2024 00:21

You've melted it..

allmyown · 06/04/2024 00:22

I would guess you have melted the fibres in the carpet

WarshipRocinante · 06/04/2024 00:25

Just realised your last line said it is a new carpet. Why did you wash it! Especially with a spray and a wet cloth?

Pinkpinkpink15 · 06/04/2024 00:26

I'm guessing it's a nylon carpet & you've melted the fibres. If it pretty much all over the best thing to do is make an insurance claim & get it replaced. Water:re washing isn't going to help & you'll just have wet melted carpet.

Andthereyougo · 06/04/2024 00:31

Try brushing it. Hand brush would probably work best. Try a small area and see if that softens it. if that doesn’t work I think you’ve probably melted the fibres.

Northernsouloldies · 06/04/2024 01:11

Hope your carpet isn't buggered but it sounds like you've melted the fibres hence it being sticky.
