about 55% mine

OP posts:
KnickerlessParsons · 04/04/2024 23:11

70-80%

It would score higher if it was closer to the coast.

IncognitoMam · 04/04/2024 23:14

Present house about 50
House we're moving to 80

Squirrelsnut · 04/04/2024 23:17

House 65%
Location 80%

London. I love it personally . If I could swim in the sea it would be 100%

AmaryllisChorus · 04/04/2024 23:25

80%. It is clean, safe, green. The air is so sweet everyone comments on it. Incredible walks from our front door. Gorgeous local shops and cafes, very good pubs, loads of things to do, amazing facilities for a village. Very friendly. Full of people who keep an eye out for each other. Easy commute to London.

But it isn't London and I miss London.

Sallysslippers · 04/04/2024 23:27

About 60 ish. Nice safe area but on main road which is busy and noisy.

chosenone · 04/04/2024 23:29

50 for house and location. Tourist town very beautiful but I'm on the ‘wrong side’ of it. Love my Victorian style house but need more outdoor space.

Maddy70 · 04/04/2024 23:30
  1. Its only rented if it was mine it would be 100

I am 200 m from the sea in an idyllic historic town where visitors save all year to come for 2 weeks and I have the privilege to call this my home

Switcher · 04/04/2024 23:31

Just discussing this with my husband on the way back from the IMAX it took us 6 minutes to drive to. It's 5 miles away from my house in a former village. So is the open countryside. It's the least aspirational city in the country, but we just can't get away from the convenience.

noodlesfortea · 04/04/2024 23:34

@AmaryllisChorus please reveal this wonderful commutable village!

I'd say 70/100 for mine. It's a very cute village surrounded by lovely walks, good pubs and nice towns to visit. We have all the amenities needed within 15 mins drive. Commutable to London in around 30-45 mins. Ideally it would be on the coast. Can be a bit small minded. Can't get a lot of house for your money.

EarringsandLipstick · 04/04/2024 23:35

Ooh. Good question.

House 40% (mostly as I don't like the estate it's in)

Wider area possibly 60% (it's a nice friendly area, close to lots of amenities - great park, shops, cafes etc, really handy for my work, suburban but can be rural in minutes, and at the sea in 25 minutes. But it's not scenic or lovely to look at especially).

I'm overall happy there. My kids are very settled, particularly in their sports which have a strong community focus, and that counts for a lot.

SmallIslander · 04/04/2024 23:37

I love my house, so probably 80%

The city we live in is a bit devoid of culture, and is quite provincial, and the people quite negative and weirdly passive. So maybe 40 or 50% on that score.

liftaflower · 04/04/2024 23:49

90%. London zone 2. Huge park and good high street on the doorstep. Lots of trendy leisure facilities and sports for the dcs. Great local primary schools and transport links. But I need to travel for my hobby, and dcs will need to get a bus to a good senior school.

House is 70%. It's nice and fits our family size, but my dream house would have a hobby room for me and a big garden, and a spare bedroom.

Beezknees · 04/04/2024 23:56

In whose opinion? Mine or the wider population?

About 60% for me but to mumsnet it would probably be 0%, I rent a third floor council flat next to a main road in a town that has some of the highest crime rates in the county.

I would prefer a house and there's a specific other town that I'd prefer to live in but I like living in a place that is affordable, with good public transport, my flat is in very good nick for a council place and the building is quiet. I lived by the sea 20 odd years ago and did not like it, so that's not my utopia.

IncognitoMam · 04/04/2024 23:57

I must be missing something about London. I can never wait to leave when I've had to visit.
I do like some cities though. Edinburgh, Durham,York. But I wouldn't want to live in them.
I love living by the sea with good public transport and near enough to the motorway.

I think I only got London once I’d lived there for a while. I was never particularly keen when I just visited. I just spent a few days there, having left London in 2012 and left the UK in 2019, and it always takes me a couple of days to get back into it.

Cornishclio · 05/04/2024 00:05

Maybe 85%. I love our house, neighbourhood and area. We are close to the coast and moors and have a city in commuting distance.

Negatives are the town centre and our local city centre need investment. Both are going through a rejuvenation so hopefully that will help. Better transport links would help as would GP surgery where you could actually see a doctor. I am not sure there is such a thing as Utopia but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
