Does anyone else have salty water drip from their nose when they have a cold?

I mean extremely watery, constant dripping. Like if you leaned forward it would drip onto the floor? I remember always suffering from this since a child. It's not normal snot that most people get, it's extreme and it prevents being able to prepare food or do much at all for a couple of days, as it would just drip all over everything. I can hardly walk around with tissue stuffed up my nose 24/7! I'm just wondering if anyone else experiences this when they have a cold virus?

Snot mate

Namerchanger1 · 04/04/2024 20:11

Just snot innit?

Willmafrockfit · 04/04/2024 20:11

post nasal drip
perhaps?

No, it's not normal snot. It's drip, drip, drip...runny salt water like tears, and constant. It usually lasts 1-2 days before changing to normal cold virus snot, the same type my children, husband and everyone else seems to have. It's really annoying.

Just a different texture of snot! Confused

xyz111 · 04/04/2024 20:39

I've never noticed if it's salty, as I don't tend to let it get in my mouth, but the first few days of a cold my nose runs constantly!! Currently on day 2 now with a nose red raw and going through so many tissues 🤦🏻‍♀️

ATerrorofLeftovers · 04/04/2024 20:40

Yes, I get this and have it now, in fact, as I’m coming down with a cold. It’s annoying.

Gabby10 · 04/04/2024 20:44

I get this when I'm starting with a sinus infection. Sometimes comes on that quick I think I'm having a nose bleed when I bend down then realise it's just water dripping from my nose😂 no helpful advice I'm afraid and yes agree it's really annoying!

Dramarama12 · 04/04/2024 20:46

I know it's salty because if I lean forward it drips from my nose, and if I lean back, it goes down my throat and I can taste the salt! Glad to hear I'm not alone though!

Yes I have this, it's post nasal drip from sinusitis. I don't have any sign of a cold but when I bend down or lean over runny liquid just runs straight out my nose. Really annoying.

MoonWoman69 · 04/04/2024 20:49

Same here! I went searching on the internet about it and didn't like what I read, so I'm ignoring it and putting it down to runnier than normal snot!

Dramarama12 · 04/04/2024 20:50

I know I've had it happen many times over the years (not every cold though weirdly) and I'm still OK. I do have sinus issues though so yes, maybe it's related.

It's totally normal. That's why it's called a "streaming nose"! It invariably happens when you don't have a tissue or are in the middle of something important so you have to use your sleeve to quickly stem the tsunami rushing out your nose. 🤢

Noshferatu · 04/04/2024 20:57

This is what my hay fever is like. Try an antihistamine.

User364837 · 04/04/2024 20:59

Yes I get the “runny nose” drippy snot before the “normal” snot stage then the horrible stuffed up blocked nose bit. I also get very watery eyes. It’s normal 👍

User364837 · 04/04/2024 21:00

I’m a musician (not wind instrument) and it’s a nightmare playing when I’m like that as your hands aren’t free. I’ve had to wear a black scarf 😆

Willmafrockfit · 04/04/2024 21:03

all better in 2020

OwlCityisthemostunderrated · 04/04/2024 21:03

This is what everyone gets for the first couple of days of a cold. That’s why people say their nose plus running/drippy/streaming. A hayfever tablet helps dry it up though.

Dramarama12 · 04/04/2024 21:03

I have to have a tissue held there all day and if I remove the tissue it drips. I can't type with both hands and I can't prepare food unless there's tissue stuffed there. My husband doesn't get anything like that, nor my brother and friends. It seems so extreme, but I accept it's a variation of normal... I wish I could just be stuffed up / sneezy. It's just very annoying and feels unhygienic.

Awful! Good idea though!

Sorry but it isn't. Not to this extent! I am glad to hear it's not just me though, but I've been around a lot of people with colds (work in a school) and never seen anyone with this. You can't hide it or wipe it away with a quick swipe either.

OP posts:
Dramarama12 · 04/04/2024 21:23

I mean, I know there will be some who suffer the same way, but it's definitely not the same for everyone. Some people barely even need a tissue and just get stuffed up with a need to blow their nose from time to time. If you know, you know though!

I watched an episode of greys anatomy recently where a guy had a cold and the lingering effect was a runny nose but it was brain fluid. So like make sure it's not that. Not to be that person. I think if it's salty it's snot.
