Any health care workers?

Looking for some advice from the professionals about how accurate at home oximeters are? My LO has been diagnosed with pneumonia and we purchased one for peace of mind as she's not very good at telling us when she is struggling.

Anyway her levels are sat at 89/90 and keep momentarily dipping. I've checked on myself and my youngest who are getting 98/99 consistently. Want to avoid taking her back in unless absolutely needed and she really needs to be resting.

I'm not a health care worker but I would definitely get her checked at the hospital. 89/90 is way too low. If the oximeter is accurate then she would need to be seen. I'm assuming even with the pneumonia it's not OK for it to be that low? Hopefully someone medical replies but I would be making a call in the meantime anyway if I were you. I hope she is on the mend soon.

You don’t say how old, but I wouldn’t be mucking about if it’s reading other family members okay.
what’s your gut telling you about how she is?
I would say the fact you’re asking is enough to say you should get her seen.

Does she have very cold hands or nail varnish on? Even being black or Asian impacts on the readings as they rely on light and that can be stopped. You could try it on her toe too and see if that works.

Is she able to speak in full sentences? If not then you need to call 999. If, however her readings are correct as far as you can tell but she isn't visibly suffering then she probably needs a review and you should call 111 (who may well send an ambulance).

If your daughter is a child the oximeter needs to be a paediatric one or it won’t read correctly.
