Mice infestation temporary housing

Hi everyone,

I am currently in temporary housing supplied by my local council. Ive been there less than a week! I wasn’t told of any mice issue on the day of sign up. I only found out when I received a letter about mice infestation and that someone will be coming in to fill the holes - since then I’ve been around the bed sit and have found mice droppings.

I have a toddler and currently 39 weeks pregnant! I cannot bare the thought of mice.

the temporary housing officers have employed their own company pest control and not gone through the local authority (I’m not sure why) but anyways.. I’m not very happy with the holes they have covered. (They have only covered one gap)

under the sink they have patched up one bit with a small plank of wood and there is still large holes/gaps.. the reason they didn’t cover is because they said they covered the one entry point. Looking at the quality of the work I’m not convinced they have done a good job.. looks like a rushed job to me!! - I know it’s temporary but the work this pest control person has done is very sloppy.

Does anyone know what I can do? They seem to think the issue is solved and I obviously won’t know until few days / weeks time when or if I see any more new droppings. I’m worried to use poison as I have a toddler.

the bathroom sink looks really scruffy (I have cleaned and bleached this whole bed sit top to bottom) but look how awful the quality of work is 😩

Hello OP
First of all, I hope you're doing ok. Sounds like you've been through a hell of a lot, & now this.
As someone who's terrified of rodents I can totally sympathise but you are also heavily pregnant & have a toddler which must be extra worrying.
Has your homeless application been accepted (has your housing officer written to say the council owes you a full duty?) -if so, might make things easier in terms of accessing legal support. Your home sounds unsuitable due to this infestation - There are a lot of housing law solicitors who might be able to help/offer advice. I don't know your financial situation so unsure whether you'd be eligible for legal aid but Private message me for a recommendation.
Also google 'who are my local councillors' & email them, & email your MP too.
These actions could lead to an imminent move - you say 'I know it's temporary' but it's your home & regardless of how long you are there you have the right to feel comfortable & safe. Flowers
