Impetigo marks

Hi. First time poster so not sure I’ve posted in the right place. But I was just after some advice or chat with people who have experienced the same.

My DD 4 had a bad case of impetigo around 7/8 months ago. Two circles on either side of her cheek. Started by insects bites that became infected.

These healed great with treatment from gp. But she has been left with pink marks, these have faded from purple to a pink colour over time but still quite visible. Everything I’ve read online says impetigo dosnt scar. Which it hasnt there’s isn’t any indentation in the skin just a pink mark in the shape of the impertigo infection.

I've tried various moisturisers and bio oil to see if it would help but I don’t think it really has.

The marks are starting to bother her now as can come quite prominent if she’s too hot, they become redder.

I'm really at a loss. I briefly discussed with gp when I took her about something else but he said impetigo wouldn’t leave marks? But that’s what she was treated for when she was seen and the marks only appeared after the impetigo had healed, they are also the same shape as the impetigo was on her skin. Not sure whether to try a private dermatologist?

Has anyone else had this issue after impetigo and was anyone else left with marks like this?

Thanks for the link. I’ve tried some of the methods it mentions. I see that it also says on there the marks can take a while to fade but after a short time, but this has been around 8 months for us. Really not sure why that hasn’t been the case for us.

It can scar. I had it as a child and I'm 30 now and still have a slight shadow of where it was on my chin.

Thanks for the reply. This was my fear. I’ve searched all over the internet and everything points to it fading away in 6 weeks. I didn’t know this and just thought it would just fade over the months so I wasn’t that concerned. I just happened to mention it to GP earlier as I was there anyway and now I know don’t what to think and am panicking abit she’ll always have them!

She’s only 4 and it’s horrible she asks what they are and when will they go. Some days they are barely noticeable but when she’s hot or cold they become quite dark.

if you don’t mind me asking how old were you when you got it? Did it fade at all over time?
