This is what the company I work for have on their letter templates/ad hoc letters for us to use.

It looks wrong. I am sure It's wrong, surely It's 'Dear Whoever' or 'TO Whom it May Concern?

I fully accept that I could be wrong!

I have always thought it is To Whom...

BoudiccaOfSuburbia · 03/04/2024 10:35

It’s Dear Madam or Sir, or To whom it may concern.

Their mash up makes them sound illiterate. I couldn’t send that with my name at the bottom

WitchyWay · 03/04/2024 10:36

What type of letters are you sending if you don't know who you're sending them to?

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 03/04/2024 10:36

Definitely "To Whom....".

Noodge · 03/04/2024 10:37

@BoudiccaOfSuburbia I don't! I keep changing it!

We send them to service users' other services, so quite often is an institution rather than a person.

Agree! Embarrassing.

WitchyWay · 03/04/2024 10:42

Personally, I don't like 'to whom it may concern'. It comes across as stuffy and impersonal to me.

I'd prefer 'Dear department lead' or just a simple "Hello, I'm making contact with you on behalf...."

But I agree with you, definitely 'to whom.." rather than "dear whom..."
