Hello, I am hoping to reach out to the residents of wellingborough. I am looking to maybe move here in the coming months from north west london. I have a son in secondary and daughter of pre school age. this would be a big move for us as my close family will still be in London however I've always wanted out... the property I am looking at is alot nicer and larger than where i am currently. im weighing up pros and cons. has anyone here done this move or from another location with secondary school children? what are the local kids like? Nice walks for dogs? the whole town itself? thank you so much for any help you can provide. many thanks

Hello OP,

I see no one has responded but I am also looking to make the same move.

Have you got any further forward about schools etc?

Just out of interest what parts are you looking at?

Thanks

Wellingborough is not a nice place. I’m currently in Kettering, also not nice.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 13/06/2024 21:54

Lots of nice surrounding towns but why Wellingborough may I ask?

Cerialkiller · 13/06/2024 21:58

The reason all the houses are so cheap there is because it's a bit of a wasteland. We bought a 3 bed Victorian terrace for 92k 10 years ago. Less then the equivalent property in some tiny rural towns up north with declining populations. Ridiculous considering proximity to London. More or less in the commuter belt.

I would choose the surrounding villages over Wellingborough proper but it depends on if you intend to commute to London I suppose. We stayed for two years then got out asap. We live in a smaller house worth about 4 times as much but In a lovely small city now.

I'm about 7 miles from w'boro. Smaller nearby towns are nicer but there are nice bits in w'boro too.

Bellaphant · 14/06/2024 12:20

There are definitely nice bits and the countryside around is great, lots of country parks on your doorstep. The town centre is a bit shit and the roads are terrible but unfortunately that's not unusual at the minute.

StellaGibson2022 · 22/06/2024 02:43

Thanks all

@Sux2buthen and @Bellaphant

Could you name the nicer areas within Wellingborough and villages?

Also I am looking at senior schools - do you have any knowledge of Wrenn and Weavers?

thanks everyone

Stanton Cross and Glenvale Park are two very new housing estates, both with parks, schools, etc: there's also Weandal View, but Glenvale is probably the nicest.

Most of my knowledge is the North of wellingborough- any of the estates south of Queens way, Redhill Grange, etc. There's also 1st, 2nd, 3rd Avenue the other side of town, which are 1930s, etc.

Depends how far you want to be from the train, but Little Harrowden, Orlingubury, Earls Barton, are lovely: depends whether you need access to a primary school. I have not much knowledge of the secondary schools, sorry.

I know someone that's just finished at weavers and a teacher, I'll ask about it.
There's lots of little towns nearby as well, irchester, higham ferrers, Rushden, wymington.
All about 10 mins drive from Wellingborough if that

StellaGibson2022 · 23/06/2024 01:52

Thank you @Sux2buthen

I love Higham Ferrars and will take a look at Wymington

Thank you

Thank you - will take a look at the avenues.

So helpful.

Just out of interest is there anywhere to be avoided? I do need the station but my plan is to use the car park at Wellingborough.
